Umatic doesn't play?
 

Hi, Sorry my english, I come from Brazil.

I have umatic sony vp-7020. I have a problem, I put the tape and it doesn't play, it keeps rewinding to the end of the tape and then it stops. I can't play it, and it does this with all tapes. what can be?

It can be hundreds of reasons why it does that, If you are not comfortable fixing it yourself see if you have a technician in your country otherwise just sell it for parts so someone can make use of it.

probably some loose/broken belt somewhere that'll need replacement, also make sure to lubricate all the gears inside,

I haven't experienced this, but I would also guess it might be sensor related. Here's another video saying that if there is too much light going to the sensor it might not play, but instead rewind or forward. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zw2hz6Z7NwM

If you have the lid removed, put the lid back on to keep the light out. If that doesn't fix it, then perhaps the sensor is bad or misaligned, such as the previous poster suggested.
