Hello everyone. I have a problem. I am converting 85 tapes. My purpose is to improve my vhs.The tapes are good quality.
I'm using a Sony XV-C900. this machine is good.
Typically, use the command (line, GAMMA) by moving one notch to right. the appearense of the movie is bright, but there are problems with chroma of the color red (bleeding).
the result is better than the original. is brighter, I like
What should I do?
Should I remove the proc amp?
I have to lower the control range (Gamma)?
When should you use proc amp?
It should be always used the proc amp?

My set up is: JVC Hr-s9850- Datavideo tbc 1000-> Sony xv-c900-> jvc dvdr
my vhs tv recordings. Are from 1995-2003.
I hope that my English is correct
Thank

Gamma isn't really "brightness" as much as it's the value of gray scale. It will affect B&W values, however. It's almost hard to describe gamma without using more technical jargon in the process. It's related to luminance, but it's not the same. A better video proc amp probably would have let you alter luminance. I know the SignVideo and Elite Video units have luminance adjustments.

To reduce color bleeding, you'll have to reduce saturation.

If it's simply chroma skew -- color not properly aligned over the luma -- then you can adjust this with Aviynth scripts.
Sample script:
Code:
AVISource("c:\video.avi")
ConvertToYV12()
ChromaShift(C=-2) # shift chroma left by two pixels
Proc amps are used in the analog domain, to process or pre-process color. Sometimes a proc amp lets you completely fix color. Other times, it lets you fix is enough to where software can take over and continue the restoration.

And your English is fine.

Elite and SignVideo, not often found on ebay.
But Sony does its job. Improve your video, and this is what is important for restoration video.
When I watch the DVD, I'm glad it's like night and day.
The aim is to improve the video
My problem:-->I've responded to desaturate the color is true.
I am converting tapes of F1 motor racing in 1999
These are the details of the tapes:

1)The tapes are of good quality, you can clearly see.
2) They Philips VHS tape.
3) I always use the function (BYPASS, or splt screen) red (Ferrari) bleeds, like a red cloud, lose the details. All the other colors look good. Therefore, lowering the color red becomes "Normal"but down, down with all the other colors in your video

Why in the VHS problem is the color red?
It may be the brand of tape? Thanks

No, you'll have to spend some time hunting on eBay weekly for Elite Video gear (also "EliteVideo" as one word -- search tip).
SignVideo is rare on eBay. You'd have to buy it directly from SignVideo.com for about $300.

Red bleed is the most common bleeding, and it can be made worse by (as you guessed) tape grade or VCR quality.
