JVC HR-S7900U and Universal Remote question

Hi All,
Thanks for this great forum! I just purchased a JVC HR-S7900U and I need a remote control for it. Will any of the universal remotes available as of this date have the code needed for this VCR? I saw a couple of RCA universal remotes, low cost, which have decent reviews on Amazon. Looking for some help with my search.
Thanks!

might be a match. Check for the OEM model number in the VCR user manual.

My experience with universal remotes is that they can be hit or miss and not implement all functions of the OEM remote. If you know the universal's model number, try find the user manual/programming codes and see if your VCR is listed. Some universals can "learn" from an OEM remote, but that means you need access to an OEM remote.

Thanks dpalomaki! I just purchased the VCR's remote on ebay for $10. I was looking at the universal remotes because I may need the remote to operate one or two other devices. But this JVC OEM remote for the HR-S7900U may also have the capability to do that as well.

They cost a bit, but I can recommend the Logitech Harmony remotes. They have just about any remote code and supports custom buttons. If you happen to have an unsupported device, it supports capturing button codes from the original remote.

NJRoadfan, thank you very much for the Logitech Harmony remote info! Unfortunately, I don't have have the original remote of the other devices to capture the button codes from.
By the way, the other devices are Pannys SVHS AG-1980 and AG-5710. Both of which I don't really need a remote control for those two decks to operate their functionality properly. That's my understanding. But the HR-S7900U deck, definitely needs a remote for functionality of that unit. If I'm incorrect in my assessments, please let me know. Yes, I went on a SVHS deck mini-buying spree. :screwy:

The Harmony supports the JVC VCRs out of the box. The Panasonic decks can use any Panasonic VCR remote. The "light tower" remotes that came with the late 90s-early 00s Panasonic decks can easily be found at a thrift store and seem to work on everything from 1984 to the present.

I received the JVC HR-S7900U ($70) & the JVC VCR REMOTE CONTROL LP20303-015 that cost $12 on ebay, and both units work great!
