Using Datavideo STC-100 as a TBC

Hi,

I was wondering if a Datavideo STC-100 NTSC/PAL Standards Converter could instead be used as a TBC and if it could be any good.

It detects the input video and the output standard is selectable (so there doesn't have to be a conversion).

It states it has a "Full Frame TBC"

Just an observation. I've not used or tested one. The frequency response is listed as +/- 3 dB at 4.5 mHz, which strikes me as a wide variation and potentially limiting. Probably OK for VHS tapes, but potentially a bit meager for quality S-VHS, Hi8 or DV sources. In part a limitation of the 13.5 mHz internal sampling rate and output filtering.

As a point of reference, the alignment instructions for the AG1980 has the S-VHS record/playback response -3 dB (+/- ~1 dB) at 4 mHz.

The BURST PIXIE Frame Synchronizer mentioned in a different post claims +/- 1 dB at 5.5 mHz. But it samples at 27 mHz giving greater (2x) bandwidth potential.

The Studio 1 Productions /Sign Video PrRoc amp claims 10 mHz +/- 1 dB (but it is not limited by the sampling rate of a digital frame store)
