Hello, I'm a new user, I searched for the sky and the earth, and, but I never found the solution.

This is the video that I'm going to improve, or rather, how it improves: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hc18rWqiGw.

The video was already improved, but I would like to understand how he did it and what YouTuber flaniman2 Fitri used, so as to make the most of my videos. On the Internet, unfortunately, there are many videos in 144p / 240p / 360p, sometimes unique and rare and I regret not being able to see in HD on my LCD PC (1366x768) or on my TV LED 38 "Full HD (1920x1080).

Also , there are many VHS recordings in 480p / 576p not appear of this resolution. I love Formula 1 and the music and videos that I would drain the best. the YouTuber said to have used VirtualDub and upscaling HD video Converter Factory Pro. I have them both, but I do not know how to use them, especially the first.

Second question, is best HD video Converter Factory Pro or Infognition Dee Mon Video Enhancer 1.9 or 2.0? Thanks in advance. Here's the video enhanced by YouTuber: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX-APxBbnlo.

Welcome, and happy holidays.

The videos you link to are not available outside of the Mediterranean region or Italy.

YouTube is not high quality media. Why would you want your videos to look as awful as the typical re-processed YouTube video?

If you want to post samples of your own video in the forum, please post unaltered original cuts. We cannot help you with cleanup using re-processed samples or YouTube posts.

Original video: il problema piu importante del mondo - adriano celentano.mp4

Video re-processed on YouTube: ? Adriano Celentano ? Il Problema Pił Importante (Cinebox Scopitone) ? Video & Audio Restored.mp4

I would like to get from the original video, the same quality of the re-processed video.

Those aren't from the same source.

The audio can't be restored to sound like the "restored" sample. It's rich and full, and the non-restored sounds like it was played through a telephone. That audio comes from another source.

The "restored" version has issues. I wonder if it's been butchered, not simply restored. For example, frame blending. It wreaks of over-contrast and over-sharpening. The bad sharpening was for sure bad restoration work. But the others may have truly been better than the source -- it's hard to know, having not seen the source.

If that was a before/after, then the "after" is amateur at best.
- Did not address film noise
- Did not address chroma noise
- Did not address aliasing jaggies
- Did not address overscan
- Did not address jitter/movements

... but felt the need to slap his shitty logo on the video, thus ruining it (even more) for others. I truly despise asshats that want to put their logo all over videos. If you want to restore video, then restore video WITHOUT the ego stroking BS.

Converter Factory Pro is cheap NON-PRO software.

Something like this could be better done in pure Avisynth, with only maybe the chroma NR via CCD in VirtualDub.

The resize looks almost fractal, but it is easily tripped up. It turns to goo far too often. It needs to be anti-aliased before the upsize; it looks really bad. There zero reason to go above 640x480, and attempting to do so will result in gooey/plastic quality.

You're come to the right place.

But even-better quality can be had, with some mild work.

And to say that to me seems a miracle, you think that YouTube are much worse restorations. For quality over 640x480, you can use this software: http://www.infognition.com/articles/..._shootout.html
You tell me how to get that video from 240p to 480p and then from 480p to 720p or 1080p or even 4K (I'm exaggerating!)? Joke, at least 720p.

First of all, happy holidays, but I'm waiting for your answer for how to restore the video.

I don 't understand why you are sending multiple PM messages for me to reply to your post. You have linked to the Video Enhancer website, but I don't use that product and can't answer for it.

I use it just to bring that application from 480p to 720p, for the rest I need your help to use VirtualDub.

I don't think you brealize you're dealing with two different sources. In the so-called "restroration" sample, someone took a relatively undamaged original source and wrecked it with clueless bad processing, then used VrtualDub to make a wrecked video look even worse by gross resizing while the video was still interlaced and turning it itno a field-blended mess that can't be repaired. In your "original" sample (which is not an original at all) someone who is just as mindless discarded half the interlaced fields and threw away 50% of the temporal resolution and 50% of the spatial resolution, then ruined the original source in the opposite direction by resizing only the half-height fields ans then reducing them to MPEG-1 dimensions. This might be what YouTube fans call "great" video, but to most of us it's the usual YouTube garbage. Neither of those samples is a "restoration" by anyone's definition.

Because your "original" source is not original and is pretty well ruined, you can't use Virtualdub to make an ugly video the way the other user did. You need Avisynth.

Video Enhancer is essentially VirtualDub with a lousy payware upsize algorithm.

Stop doing that.

(1) Your size will never allow for quality beyond 480p, and 480p is already stretching it. You don't need 720p.
(2) Never upsize before running certain restoration filters. Some can be (most be!) run after an upsize, some before. You never run upsize, then everything else. That's wrong in almost all cases.

How sure are you? I'm not 100% confident.

The audio is definitely from another source.
But I'm not sure what's going on with the video. In some places, timing errors show it may be the same original source (before BOTH videos, forked for processing). But in other places, errors in one are missing on the others, and it's NOT because those were processed out (ie missing chroma, now magically back). It may be a mix from two sources.

Thanks a lot, you may send me the script to AviSynth? I have to use the VirtualDub Neat Video? Then with Video Enancher, the port from 480p to 720p.

So it is best HD Video Converter Factory? Thank you so much, you make me save $ 30. In fact, the YouTuber use HD Video Converter Factory application to convert SD to HD.

HD Video Converter Factory is POS. No.

I don't have time to write you a script. But I can do this...

Start with my MultiScript. http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/news...-avisynth.html
(Yikes, 2014 coming soon! I need to finish that tutorial ASAP.)

You need to, in this order:
- convert to lossless AVI
- realize chroma was butchered at some point, very blocky, DV in chain likely
- realign chroma to the right about 2-4 pixels, and up 6-8
- anti-alias, probably santiag()
- adjust levels slightly brighter*
- too much red, autoWB*
- probably save as pass1 lossless AVI with Avisynth filters used
- now process in VirtualDub, CCD for chroma, as it's smeared in all directions
- alt*: process levels in Vdub if not Avisynth
- alt*: too red, Colormill in Vdub if not Avisynth
- save loss AVI
- remove film dirt
- attack other noise with NR filters in Avisynth
- spline resize to 720x480/576; NO MORE!
- another santiag() may be required
- mask overscan; don't re-crop, this video cannot handle more resizing
- maybe slight sharpening allowed, maybe

The "before" video has signs that it may be a screen capture, not conversion from better source. At 00:57, for example, is odd digital tearing. Again, this may be forked version, NOT a before/after.

This is just my early plan or attack, and may change based on actual processing. Both order and filters used (example AAA instead of santiag), in addition to exact settings

Good luck!

You start it, get your hands dirty, lots of trial/error, and we'll help with feedback.

Note: Attach high-bitrate MP4 samples, not AVI, using Avidemux to encode a nice large sample. And sample DOES NOT mean you need to attach the entire video, just 30 seconds or so, to showcase the error. I get rather tired of downloading a huge AVI or entire video, when it's not needed. If we need the lossless AVI, we'll let you know.

Thank you very much, since I'm Italian and I do not know English well, use Google translator and the translation is not really one of the best. I restoration knowledge of 0, so it is best to look your own script, perhaps, when you have time.

Google Translate is pretty good then! I didn't know you were Italian at all.
The jargon probably is not translating.
For example, santiag() is a filter in Avisynth.

Well, apparently it has improved, first he did not know even translate "Too Much Heaven", however, in addition to the jargon, I even difficult technical terms. As I told you, I know nothing of restoration, and look forward, of course, when you have time, your script.

As I told you, I do not understand anything, you could send me the script and process settings?

Please observe forum protocol, you are posting requests all over the place, in other threads and in yet another PM to me:

Quote:
Please send script and process settings.
What made you think I had a script? The sample you want someone to work with is really just visual garbage. It didn't even have a decent audio track. I can help make a few improvements, as long as you can keep in mind that I wouldn't want to help you make a video as ugly or as idiotic as the "restored" version to which you referred earlier. That horrible restoration isn't even the correct aspect ratio.

Keep in mind that on a 16x9 full screen display, your 240p sample will display as 1440x1080.
On a 16x9 full screen display, the attached 640x480p sample will also display as 1440x1080. So there is no sense going beyond 480p because your sample doesn't have the resolution to support software HD upscaling and would look like crap. It is high resolution that makes high definition, not big frame sizes.

The first script creates a .wav file of uncompressed PCM audio, taken from the restored sample that you posted. The script copies an extra 53 frames of the first part of the restored version and attaches it to the front of itself. This gives a video with a total of 3,945 frames of audio, which is the same number of frames as your 240p sample.

This is the script that creates the file for saving the audio only:
Code:
# ###########################
# Required: ffms2.dll
# Required: ffms2.avs
# ###########################

loadCplugin("D:\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\ffms2.dll")
Import("D:\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\ffms2.avs")

aud = ffaudiosource("E:\forum\faq\ciccioschumacher\Adriano Celentano_Il Problema_Restored.mp4")
vid = ffvideosource("E:\forum\faq\ciccioschumacher\Adriano Celentano_Il Problema_Restored.mp4")
audiodub(vid,aud)
V2 = last
V1 = V2.Trim(0,52)

return (v1++V2)

# ############################################
#
# In Virtualdub save only the uncompressed PCM
# audio as "Restore_audio.wav", to be used in STEP 2 script, below.
#
# ############################################
The audio file will later be used as the audio for the output of the improvement script. The script I used to produce the attached sample Problema_480p.mp4 is in two parts. The first part is STEP1.AVS, which creates a file that should be saved in VirtualDib's output as a lossless YV12 video file named "Step1..avi". The second script takes Step1.avi as its input and outputs the final version of the video, which I encoded as mp4 and attached to this post.

STEP1 script:
Code:

You will have to modify some of the path statements such as "D:\Avisynth 2.5\plugins\" so that the path to a file or to a plugin matches locations in your computer system.

In the future I suggest that you learn to recognize video trash and try to avoid it whenever possible. Sometimes the effort isn't worth the trouble, especially with the horrible videos found on YouTube. Many defects in your 240p sample cannot be repaired. The person who created your sample clip had no idea how much damage they were causing.

Thank you so much, it's even better the YouTuber, there's only a little 'blocking the home screen, but But I think there was also in the YouTuber, only that it was hidden.

There are two errors in the script for STEPO2. One is a line that I should have omitted, the other is a typing error. Both errors occur near the top portion of STEP2.

Because STEP2 calls for the plugin named "QTGMC-3.32.avsi" plus its support dll's, the statement below is not needed and should be removed:

Code:
Import(ppath+"QTGMC-3.32.avs")
If that line is not removed, the script will produce an error.

The following statement contains a typing error:

Code:
SmoothLevels(16,1.0,255,16,255,chroma=200,limiter=0,tvrange=true,\protect=6)
It would more correct to replace that statement with this one:

Code:
SmoothLevels(16,1.0,255,16,255,protect=6)
There is also an incorrect statement that executes the plugin named LimitedSharpenFaster. A copy of the corrected version of STEP2.AVS is attached.

The Avisynth plugin LimitedSharpenFaster.avs is difficult to find. A copy of LimitedSharpenFaster.avs and a text Help file are attached.

The ReplaceFramesMC usage can produce some distortion in parts of some of the frames. This is unavoidable when trying to create new frames during motion. The alternative is to allow the original bad frame to remain untouched, which looks worse. Sometimes you have to decide in favor of a compromise.

In the beginning there are a few frames with block noise. Unfortunately the 240p sample does not have enough resolution or detail to be able to use the usual block noise filters. They would blur the small frames beyond recognition. I did not have enough time to experiment with other filters.

That chroma has awful temporal errors. It needs more work. Not sure what happened there. It amplified the source errors, instead of curing them.

sanlyn gave a great start, especially to remove film dirt.

It's always nice to see other script. I see a thing or two that I want to investigate further.

You did a great job, you might also restore this video? Is for my brother of 3 years old, I am a boy of 17 years and just recently I got involved in the restoration, for this reason, I do not understand much. Here's the video.

There's no need to restore that. Disney's Robin Hood is available on DVD and Blu-ray, and it most certainly has an Italian audio track. That's one of my favorite cartoon movies.

Save restoration ONLY for times when you already have the best source available (ie, not Youtube).
