Run QTGMC deinterlacer on capture PC or edit PC?

Hi all,

It's been an exciting weekend as all of my capture hardware seems to be working well enough to use again. Now that I've got usable HuffYUV AVI captures I want to take the next steps towards editing and publishing. With each tape I plan to have an interlaced file for storage on DVD, and another deinterlaced file for streaming and cloud storage.

My question today is about which computer I should be using to run QTGMC. On the AviSynth Wiki it is mentioned that QTGMC is demanding on system hardware. That said, should I even attempt to run QTGMC on my XP capture PC, or should I use a more powerful PC running 64 bit Windows 7 with a quad core i7, SSD, and 16 GB ram for deinterlacing? I have VirtualDub2 and HuffYUV 2.1.1 installed on my Windows 7 PC if that information is of any use.

QTGMC is slow, so use the faster CPU you have. SSD also helps here, to read/write.

Play with the settings. Don't just use ("slower") mode, but look into fast/faster, and read up on the finer uses such as TR=2, and sourcematch. Find a good mix of speed, non-blurring, and not leaving artifacts. My Avisynth sampler guide currently has "slower" as default, but I may change that by end of year.

And Avisynth+ x64 is much faster at a pure quick deinterlace. Much, much faster. At least on my i7-6700K build.
