download a swf file
plays back fine but displays "error" string

so i downloaded a swf decompiler
saw the code was looking for a country code setting

tried to "rem" out code, but code was read-only

any ideas how i can decompile code and remove unwanted bits?

there are a few decompilers out there (a hex editor might even do the trick for you). Can you give an an exact url for the file or the page where it can be downloaded or stolen from?

robot, the jetix site is:
http://www.jetix.co.uk/

from there, you will have to navigate to the YYY sub-section.

not sure if this will take you straight there:
http://www.jetix.co.uk/localise/yinyangyo/frameset.html

the main swf will have a hamster(?) running in a wheel then the YYY swf will kick in.

i could also send you the 175K swf file if it'll make things easier.
PM me if you prefer this option.

and thanks for any help you can give.

hey Manthing
I think the main reason you are getting the error is that you did not download the full main clip.

For the complete video clip here is the url
http://www.jetix.co.uk/localise/yinyangyo/video.swf

I used an app and stole the clip which is a little over 2 megsand I upped it here for you (link is only valid for a few days)

http://www.sendspace.com/file/l6j9ya

let me know if this is exactly what you were after. It played fine with no issues on my pc

robot, ta for your help so far...
...but you're not on the right track.

here are the images from the swf i'm after:

1) when you get to the initial page, you will see this:

2) then it will load up this:

and here you can see the "errors"

codewise, it is looking for country settings, probably from the loading page.

so either i have to fake the page or undo/redo the code.

this particular swf is only 175K.

if you've seen that swf, then most probably it is already on your hard drive.

look at this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USERNAME;\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

where "YOUR USERNAME" is the name you sign on with under XP or whatever os.

this is also a hidden folder so you need to enable viewing of hidden folders on your system.

so now that you see what i'm after, can you suggest how to playback the swf without the errors?

ultimately i'm trying to convert the swf to mpeg to include as part of my YYY dvd set.

however, when i convert it as it stands, i get the errors!

any help you give will be appreciated.

ok I went with the link you gave (http://www.jetix.co.uk/localise/yinyangyo/frameset.html)

will try the other route going through the site itself.
When I did the initial download i also saw a link that had "main.swf" and it was really small. I think that my be your file. Will check it out in a few minutes

still working on this. I unlocked the clip (though it was not locked to begin with), with some swf apps. This let me see more when I opened the file up in notepad. I could now see spots where it ask for the country id code, but when I put it in it fails to work. I also edited the location of the text file it looks for when you view it online but it still failed (I dled that file too and shoved it in my c drive). I did try a screen cap app but it did not work so well--

hey thanks man.
is there a way of commenting out the code and then re-compiling it?
that would be the easiest way forward right?

well I am no programmer, though I am not foreign to it either. Literally anything i did made the file not run. I did try to remove the message and it still crashed. I might try webzip and just webzip that page. This way it should mirror everything and then see what the stupid thing does.

I'm sure for a real programmer, what you are asking to do would be a breeze
