Capture resolution slightly change on Youtube upload?
 

Only small problem, when i'm going to compress to MP4 codec coding, resolution format size gets slighty changed, also when i upload to Youtube (PAL/NTSC?) I capture PAL 625 progessive component output from Panasonic VCR, why is this ? aspect ratio seems in good proportions...

I download the Youtube file, and it show an AR of 492x360, which is not 4x3 (480x360=4x3).

Did you upload a stream-ready file, or just let Youtube do what it wanted with the source file?

yes, i did not condition it for Youtube, resolution format is now where i struggle with, my wish would be to keep with it to 480 (NTSC?) PAL 576p 720, 1080, 1920, format "numbers" when i "download" movies i also see diferent formats, but ratios are correct 16:9 4:3 i guess it's some calculating to keep things fine,
and keep pixels square not rectangular, that's for anamorphic, anamorphic i also need to figure out, for a lens i have for my G7 (Lumix) although i have one good result.

You need to pre-encode it for Youtube, including 4x3 resolution change. Use a high bitrate, and then let Youtube shrink it down if it wants, don't bother trying to overly compress it yourself.

Don't worry about square/rectangle pixels in the SAR, just focus on the visual DAR (display aspect ratio, using square measurements).

Thanks, high bit rates i previously tried to avoid because of big filesizes or bad on decoding for playback.
i now see this in an other light, thankyou, i will do some studies about ratios and how that translates into horizontal and vertical amount of pixels, also the proportions of a capture and what to crop/mask to remove the "untidyness" of the outside borders.
todays, PAL 625 (analog) is all ? and 576 digital is all ? or without the "dirt" ? that puzzles me, also is NTSC 480 or 486 4:3 ?
Getting the capture is no problem i guess :)

The normal sizes for 4x3 from VHS is 720x540 (PAL) or 640x480 (NTSC). But you can do whatever you want, as there's really no set specs. Youtube will do 360p or 480p...

... meaning you need to deinterlaced properly while prepping the file. On a Mac, and not using Avisynth inside Windows VM, you other best choice is Yadif. Avidemux is pretty good at filtering everything, and the Mac version works well and is stable.

Did not do anything yet on this latest capture, interlace problems i do not have because my vcr already outputs progressive over the component output, so deinterlacing is done by the vcr, and comb is also on, on the vcr, i will look if this comb filter really matters with progressive on. i capture with Media Express on my macbook, Davinci will only capture interlaced and has no sound with the capture i do, so i will keep capturing with Media Express in progressive.

Just updated also Avidemux here, but it still doesn't accept my captured .mov file, ProRes422 LT

Thankyou, yeah was in doubt to edit first too.
just googled for ProRes and Avidemux and found that this indeed does not work, so no go in this case, I can try maybe a Avid codec some time, if needed in my case.
