Linux Capture Revisited

I'll start with the caveats: I see that no one is recommending to use linux for capture. So, let's start with the assumption that it is an inferior method that is not non-optimal at best, and not worth the effort/poor results at worst.

These are the questions I'm looking to answer in this thread:

1 - If forced to use linux, what would the preferred tool be? [I've seen OBS / Shotcut / FFMPEG (CLI) discussed in various threads]

2 - In the case of OBS : what features is it lacking specifically to be a useful tool for analog capture? It is open source/flexible and it's ultimately "what we make it". It might be possible to have some interns / "summer of code" effort initiated to close the gap.

3 - If no existing tools are promising - what is the wishlist of an analog video capture tool?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
