Hello guys,
sorry for my disappearance. I worked hard in the last month and now i plan to buy some VHS and miniDV player. I found an another guy in digitizing profession who is selling devices and also digitizing. I made a list of his devices for sale and i need advice which one i should choose.

I would like to mention also that i don't have to buy in any case. I want to digitize in the best possible quality so if none of these are meet the expectations i simple start to browse eBay once again.

JVC HR-J672EU $66,63
JVC HR-J582 $56,67
JVC HR-S5500EG $150,00
JVC HR-S6600 $108,33
JVC HR-J870 $100,00
JVC HR-S9500 $266,67
JVC HR-9400EE $266,67
JVC HM-DR10000 $516,67
JVC HR-S7711 $149,97
Panasonic NV-FJ628 $66,63
Panasonic NV-RZ15 $49,97
Panasonic NV-FJ632EE $60,00
Panasonic NV-VP30EP $81,97
Panasonic NV-FJ628 $66,67
Panasonic NV-HD600 $66,63
Panasonic NV-HS950 $156,67
Panasonic NV-FJ630 $73,33
Panasonic NV-HV61 $60,00
Panasonic NV-HV51 $60,00
Panasonic NV-HD625EE $59,97
Panasonic NV-FJ628EE $60,00
Panasonic NV-HD642EE $60,00
Panasonic NV-HV50 $59,97
Panasonic NV-FJ732 $66,63

The price can also make easy to decide: worth it or not. If we end up at after the list like: "If you want to digitalize in good quality buy HR-S9600 from eBay", i accept because that one are mentioned in a lot of topics. This list contains an S9500 but as i sadly read the posts, it is not recommended.
The seller said that every device is serviced, cleaned, but i am sceptic anything i buy from internet (eBay, or private seller). This guy also said that a lot of buyer choose the Panasonic brand instead JVC because as he said: "JVC gives you nostalgy but if you want to digitalize like a robot (20 - 100 cassettes) you need a Panasonic that is more robust and has well built quality". I disagree with him because if this would be true, none of you suggest JVC VCRs in the first place.

As LordSmurf mentioned not so long ago:
"Get a JVC 1st, a good Panasonic 2nd, and a different good JVC 3rd."

This is what i up to. If i won't buy any VCRs based on your recommendations, i still want to buy two miniDV camcorder. As we discussed not much expectations just transfer the digital signal from the cassette to the PC, but some tips would be helpful.

Looking at the list, I would only be interested in 4 units in that order:

1.JVC HR-S7711 $149.97
1.Panasonic NV-HS950 $156.67
1.JVC HR-S9500 $266.67
some prefer the output from the JVC others like the picture from the Panasonic more. Depends on your tapes.

4.JVC HM-DR10000 $516.67 (would only be interested in this as I would like to test it)

Thank you Bogilein. I checked these also. The Panasonic has a good price and is more expensive on eBay so this could be a good catch. Actually i am affraid from the S9500 because i read bad reviews here, on the forum so i would choose the 7711 instead. But i am still not sure that i should buy any of these or browse on eBay for a better one. DR10000 is also expensive, for that price i can get an S9xxx from eBay with shipping included.

Don't use eBay for a deck. The last attempt I had at buying a VCR off eBay UK, was that the deck arrived wrapped in a garbage bag. No padding. It worked, but not well. There are some good PAL deck sellers out there, though a few of them also sell on eBay sometimes, more limited stock.

I like the 7711, always have. Cheap price there.

That D-VHS deck price is ridiculous, unless from somebody known to vet gear. D-VHS decks are attuned to SP mode, and do more poorly at LP/EP that most JVC. While most PAL users seem to have always done SP, unlike NTSC users, not all did. Far too many issues, including usually lacking the required remote.

That HS950 price looks unusually good as well.

Hey LordSmurf Welcome,

The D-VHS deck is from another private seller and i don't plan to buy it, just collected every high-end decks during making the list.

This other guy is selling gears as his profession. He has a contract with a service / repair workshop so he is selling only cleaned, serviced decks. This is the most relaible source right now where i can buy devices and i also buy them personally and bring it home by myself.

Yesterday i also checked the Panasonic NV-HS1000 on eBay for curiosity and i reckognized it on a picture (third from top):

120064033_3432068533518801_2280842784941685516_n.jpg

It wasn't advertised separately instead together with other "S-VHS (TBC) videoplayers" as he labeled it. Unfortunately, both NV-HS1000 and NV-HS950 are sold. I think i didn't put too much point on LUCK at my character creational when i was born. But nothing strange with it, i would also buy these two decks so others why not doing it.

Okay i will stick to the 7711 if it will be still available at Saturday. I planned to get the best gear anyway (S9600, NV-HS1000) to strike back to my frustration but these decks are only available from eBay. The S9500 you didn't suggest here also so i leave it. If that would be so good that one would also sold for now. Are there any relevant difference between S9600 and S7711? Some features that i don't need so turn it off anyway? I found an S9600 in Germany so i thought maybe my previous boss can bring it to Hungary by himself and i don't have to order it from there, just shipping inside Germany.

On eBay there a lot of seller with 99% - 100%. These reviews covers also the shipping? If somebody has devices in a very good condition and packaging is not that protective and the buyers get a damaged product he would give a very bad review.

Which TBC and capture card do you want to use?
If you want to use a dvd recorder like the Panasonic es10 or a Canopus NX/Edius NX, it does not necessarily have to be a video recorder with tbc.
The JVC 9600 and the Panasonic FS200 are the most recommended devices and accordingly expensive and often worn out. The Panasaonic HS1000 is often mentioned as the best Panasonic recorder. However, the TBC is not really usable and the picture is not to everyone's taste. When using the TBC, the picture can sometimes jump to the right and left when capturing.
JVC's video recorders, especially the HR-S7600, are also known for sometimes eating the tapes.
Take the 7711 and preferably a Panasonic (or an identical Blaupunkt). My tip if you want one without TBC (for dvd recorder passthrough) is the Panasonic FS-88/Blaupunkt RTV925 (Lord Smurf called it useless) but it is identical to the FS-200. If there is a Hitachi S390 in your area, you are welcome to use that too. The picture is not as noisy as the Panasonic HS1000.

Hi Bogilein,
yes i will choose the 7711. Actually i can manage both workflow, i have an ES-10. So the alternative workflow would be VCR (7711 or even cheaper) -> ES 10 (line TBC) -> TBC-1000 (full frame TBC) -> capture card. What i understood from the other thread is that you don't always need the best gear to make the best quality, because the tape alignment could be different on the different gears and for different tapes, so with a manually adjusted consumer VCR you could get a clearer image from a misaligned tape than with the best Panasonic or JVC, right?

I also wanted to talk about some miniDV camcorder to buy. Should i make a new thread or can i paste my question here?

The seller has a bunch of Panasonic NV-GSxxx miniDV camcorder from 8 to 500, some Canon (MV-790, 800), also Sony DCR-xxxx and some JVC GR-DVxxxxx from $50 to $80. I don't take too much risk if i choose not wisely but does two of these worth it? If i have to choose what is the number one priority? Brand, how much do they use it, or something else?

The list if i may:
JVC GR-DVX-407EG $66,63
JVC GR-DVL160EG $50,00
Canon DM-XM2 3CCD $183,33
Sony DCR-TRV14E $66,63
Sony DCR-PC115E $56,67
Sony DCR-HC30 $50,00
Panasonic NV-GS140 $71,67
Panasonic NV-MX500 $117,00
Panasonic NV-DS15 $51,00
Samsung VP-D351 $40,00
Panasonic NV-GS8EG $56,63
Canon MV-800 $59,97
Canon MV-790 $56,67
Panasonic NV-GS21 $60,00
Panasonic NV-GS120 $70,50
Panasonic NV-GS140 $83,33
Panasonic NV-GS180 $83,30
Panasonic NV-GS230 $83,33
Panasonic NV-GS280 $83,33
Panasonic NV-GS320 $93,30
Panasonic NV-GS500 $83,33
Panasonic NV-GS8 $60,00
Panasonic NV-GS11 $60,00
Panasonic NV-GS17 $56,67
Panasonic NV-GS21 $60,00
Panasonic NV-GS22 $60,00
Panasonic NV-GS27 $56,67
Panasonic NV-GS30 $66,67
Panasonic NV-GS35 $60,00
Panasonic NV-GS37 $66,63
Panasonic NV-GS60 $60,00
Panasonic NV-GS65 $60,00

The reason to own a high end deck isn't just the TBC, but other qualities of the decks. Yes, obviously you would want to use all features, including the TBC and NR, but sometimes you cannot. (It's ironic that some people insist all NR be turned off, a reason to own the deck, and yet turning off TBC is somehow unfathomable.)

I find that non-TBC decks are generally far more worn, due to the cheaper/budget audience that used those units. The lower the cost, the more its abused, and never had any maintenance or care. (With some exceptions, such as units specifically marketed to education, government, and medical. Those users were more dullard than usual high quality hobby/pro users.)

That's just JVC in general (but other brands do this as well, some worse), mostly affecting -C formats. But I'm finding more and more Panasonic are starting to do this as the deck age. It's almost gotten to where I clench my cheeks when inserting tapes, unsure what may happen.

If you can actually find a FS88 in good condition (again, non-TBC unit), for use with an ES10 workflow, then go for it. It's not what I'd ever do, but it's a budget route worth considering.
