Emailed him about how they transfer tapes from my ebay account. Tried to do an outside of ebay deal. He would not give out any info out, and wanted to call me on the phone. Asked him 4 times, what equiptment they use, and how they get around specific problems which I have seen in the last few months working on video. Wouldn't reply.

This what these so called restoring companies do. He is all over ebay, the sad part is people are going to pay for this service. Even worse they will think they got something good cause it is on DVD.

When I saw this videos was a little bit ticked. I don't make any money from restoring my own videos. But work so hard to get the best possible quality and some of the stuff I have done is pretty good. It was from learning skills from this website and the support of this website that has helped. Put so much time in to learning skills to improve the picture & sound. Learned so many things to get around and fix many issues in vcr tapes. Than I see a guy making money and tricking people in to service where all he does is plays back a tapes and records it to DVD. It is just wrong!

I've seen that guy before, and his knowledge of video is pathetic, from what I've heard and seen to date. He gives this great speech about being a foreigner who started in a garage .. blah blah blah ... but I've gotten several complaints from their past customers. I've seen some of the work, and I've had to redo it. Anybody could buy a DVD recorder from Walmart, too, if that's the kind of work you want. This is another one of those businesses that is "professional because we say so" and not necessarily because of the product they put out. It's easy to buy a location in a strip mall, buy advertising locally and offline, and then smile at everybody. It's another thing to produce high-end work.

When the new The Digital FAQ goes online soon, there's going to be a nice LONG article series discussing these kinds of operations, one by one, and they will be named and shamed. These places spew misinformation, myth and bullshit at their own peril now. I have declared a war on stupidity. In a similar-but-opposite area of the site, we'll share the names of some of our peers who also do quality work, and offer services that sometimes deviate or differ from our own (Betamax and Betacam transfers, for example). But I will say there are more hacks than quality operations out there.

Video tape shelf life is based on humidity, and a future article will delve into this too. Just FYI, the shelf life of a tape is more along the lines of 35-60 years. Degradation that happens earlier than 35 years tends to be due to the VCR or improper storage and handling. Tapes do not die just sitting on a shelf in a typical home or office. This whole 10-15 years thing is an online myth from recent years, pure horsefeathers, just like that "DVDs die in 2-5 years" non-sense from a few years ago.

We did random sweeps of companies last March (one year ago), and some of the answers for easy questions was astounding. More than 50% of answers were awful information or completely incorrect. A few even struck me as money-grubbing and dishonest.
