Mold on VHS Cassette - How to deal with it?
1 Attachment(s)
Hi,
My VHS tapes started to have mold. As shown in the picture (it is not my tape's picture but what I have is similar to it) Is there something I can do at home to clean them before capturing or it is okay to play them as is? Regards |
If the tape contains irreplaceable material (home movies, etc.) DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PLAY IT. Seek a professional that can properly clean moldy tapes. More info here: http://www.videointerchange.com/video_recovery.htm

I am not in the USA.
We have a local repair person who cleans VHS mold using some 'German-made' machine (which he refuses to show me), but he did clean my tapes in the past pretty well. Instead of going to him again, I thought it might save some money for me if I do it myself. Because these tapes which are infected were cleaned by him in the past, but I had been waiting to get my ATI 600 USB all this while from USA to transfer them to DVD. Now that I am in posession of this ATI Card, I took out all the VHS tapes (all of them are precious home videos), and noticed the mold develooing on them (again). The mold on my tapes is not as much as shown in the picture though. I guess I will post an actual picture of my tapes to show the extent of the mold. Thanks. |
