How to organize my video PC projects?
How do the Video Professionals organize projects (Incoming-Outgoing) in folders on PC?
|
There's not really an "incoming" or "outgoing". That's mostly offline tasks.
I have two main type of drives: LS Hobby and dFAQ Projects. There are multiple drives for multiple reasons: captured, to-be-edited, edited, to-be-restored, restored, to-be-authored, authored, to-be-converted, converted, to-be-audited, and the FINAL folder. My hobby work is all home videos and TV shows / cartoons. Some is restored, most is just edited to remove unwanted sections (commercials, unrecorded section, tape endpoints, etc). I have 3 main drives for hobby. Everything is external eSATA. This is mostly sorted by TV, cartoons, personal. And personal by date (1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s), and other stuff by show title. For dFAQ work, there's at least 40 drives here, but I mostly use two internal and two eSATA for everything. Organization is easy. Emails are sorted by invoice number (with full client name), and those emails are further sorted by project status. The client helpdesk ticket has the invoice number. All source materials are labeled with the invoice. Drives are labeled (in Windows/Mac) as "11 Restore", etc. So you can say "I need restore drive 11", and you'll know what's being talked about. The drive has a color coded sticker with the number on it. A master OpenOffice spreadsheet file is saved on the local server, to show what's on what drive. Open it, makes changes or search, close it. The only nuisance is when somebody else opens it, as it's read only. And it is VERY VERY easy to screw something up if not organized at all times. |

I have lots of video - random keeps me in touch
I have over 3300 videos on YouTube.
My app allows me to randomly pick 4 or 5 to change out on my web site. It works as a screen saver, picking a random segment to refresh my memories. I had been keeping my video backups on DVD but now Thumb drives are handy. |

Random Fast Forward Slow Motion and more

I thought that backward play would be useless. But NO. I can take large video files and fast forward though it in 1/8 the time. Great for Police video. For one of my Alien video where it is cloaked!! I use fast forward and reverse multiple times. The object really shows up then. http://www.archive.org/details/demo76-pict13 see 62 through 80 seconds for the cloaked object and other activity. |

Now we know how to ID these cloakies; we can follow them back to their nest and rub them out!
Yup it is easy to show weird stuff when you have video organized like this. Fast Forward & Fast Reverse along with Slow Motion shows us more. -- merged -- Truly I'm the best at organizing VIDEO As soon as I offload the video files... I give them a long filename.. that includes ... "notseen" at the end.. Then as I view them to add more details.. I remove the notseen from the FN I have a tendency to not shoot video when my files are just dumped onto the computer.. My app can find files.. when I just search for part of the filename.. Having too many folders and sub folders makes it hard to find files manually. With long filenames and a good media app.. Things are easy and simple. Start using extra long descriptive filenames today.. I could load this app ... Do a quick catalog of your files... Find and play by the long filenames.. within minutes. To find all 4 videos with "bear/seacre/road/2019" brown bear beside seacrest road20190522113734 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt6_eaYJNoM brown bear beside seacrest road20190522113659 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfD0_Dcml1Q brown bear beside seacrest road20190522113825 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voHwlIFwiKY brown bear beside seacrest road20190522114245 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqbR3V1b128 long live long filenames... Boo Directory Structures Boo Structured Data Boo Structured Programming -- merged -- When you assign a detailed name for each video or file... Then you are done the initial step. It's easy to change / update the name later... I tended to shoot less video when I had a backlog of new un organized videos. Now I shoot. rename. do a directory of the Mpg file type and Play / display is ready and almost instant. You won't regret using long FileNames Just wish you started doing it earlier... The Spectate app is the best for finding and displaying everything. |
