Changing Title Tags after site is indexed by Google?

I just launched a site last week and I would like to know if it's ok if I change the Title Tag for a couple of my pages.

Only two pages come up in the SERPS, and they're not the pages that I would like to change the Title Tags for.

I know google takes a while to index a site but does it matter if you change Title Tags while it's indexing the site?

What about adding extra keywords too? I know they're not as effective as they used to be but can you add them while the site is being indexed?

These days, it's not as long as you think. Sometimes titles in SERPs can just take a few days. Same for the URL and other updates. (Note that you need proper htaccess when rewriting URLs.)

Go head and edit them as you see fit.

SERPs are tied to SEO of the site, both on-site and off-site. Getting URLs in the SERPs depends on the keywords targeted in the page title and URL, and the content of the page -- as well as how well "liked" they are (determined somewhat by the inbound links, though nowhere near as much as people tend to think).

Adding extra meta keyword doesn't do that much, but go head and make sure they're there and correct.

Don't ever let worrying about Google prevent you from doing what you want on your site. Google just indexed it, whatever it is. It'll update you changes just fine. In some cases, rank will stay the same, or even go up. Even if it's page 1 in the top 5, and you make major changes, there's not much chance it'll fall.

I forgot to ask.

How long until I see the changes that I made to the title tags and meta descriptions on the serps?

Would a new sitemap be necessary too?

A new sitemap is ideal. A must, really.

Changes made to a site could show up in the SERPs mere hours after it changed, on popular sites. For example, Google regards this site as an authority site, and the changes to SERPs happen within 48 hours, sometimes same-day. How quickly a site changes depends on many factors. It will likely take a few weeks for smaller sites.
