Audio Codecs: Libavcodec mp2 output
Does anybody know certainly that libavcodec mp2 output is bad quality.

The only way to find out is to do some tests with some complex surround material, or even with a musical audio.
That way it can be tested against the best audio encoders :) -kwag |
I don't know how to test it.
For this reason I am asking for. The command line to extract mp2 with Mencoder would be (most parameters tweakables): Code:
Mencoder.exe -af format=2:float,resample=44100,volume=0,surround=15 -channels 2 -srate 44100 -noskip -ovc frameno -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:abitrate=128 "Path\sourcemovie.xxx" -o "Path\Audio.avi" Could somebody with audio aknowledgements give me his opinion please? Maybe Jorel? If some enabled people give his OK, I could transcode in straight way in Smart-K. Thank you. |
Libavcodec Audio is a story for itself ;-)
As known that the AC3enc.c still needs fixes, also its known that the mp2 capabilities arent that good like the output of 2lame.exe I saw some lines on doom9.forum where it was diskussed that also the new Qenc and its mp2 engine will be changed to 2lame routines (AFAIK ... but Nic seems to be the one who really knows it). And even 2lame.exe/.dll is not the best one recommended. DSPguru gave me the recommendation to use mp2enc.dll in packshot for example as that mp2enc is known as the one with the fewest problems. |
