Hi all!

In headac3he, is the 2-pass mode used just for normalization?
If I want to keep the exact same loudness of the source, do I need to use 2-pass?
Will I loose ANY quality without 2-pass?

Hi muaddib,

The 2-pass in Headac3he is used for speed and quality. It writes a temporary file, and then encodes. The single pass encodes without a temporary file. You'll get better quality with the 2-pass mode.

hummm...
I thought that the temporary file was just for normalization.
Is there any way to turn off normalization and keep the 2-pass?

NOTE: The encode without 2-pass seems to be much faster... and keep the same loudeness of the source.
