TMPGEnc not the best way to encode audio?
 

well i just recently ran out and bought my dad a old john wayne movie she wore a yellow ribbon

and heres the problem,, step by step is what i did, i tried my best to use this guide

1 ripped dvd with dvd decryptor

i followed the steps but the audio i could only get it into a mpa format it was about 274 megs so i used TMPGEnc to encode the audio to mp2 and that file size came out around 90 megs

and when i encoded the video it came out to 684 m1v file

then i decided to just try and use TMPGEnc to combine them, and the ending file resulted in a 787 mbs mpeg file

and i thought that would of been fine to burn with an overburn in TMPGEnc but it wont burn it says total size on disk 790 and 70 mb over target size..

plus also when i use vcdeasy on it,, it pops the file size up over 900 mbs

now before i get flamed i tried using headach to encode the audio but it tells me that it dosnt support mpa,, but you see i cant seem to get DVD2AVI to save the audio as a ac3 file to use with headach,,

can some one please point me in the right direction, on what im doing wrong,, and yes i know that TMPGEnc isnt the best way to encode the audio but i was drawing at straws here

All that is fine if you correctly choosed "VCD non standard" as muxing mode.

You mean nero, isn't it ?
Force it to burn a "non standard VCD" else it will try to remux it, and this cause the error you received.

If muxing is done in correct way in first step, it should not do that. Or may be there is a setting that I do not remember to tell to vcdeasy that you are doing a non standard VCD, as with Nero.

Your DVD does not have any ac3. This is not mandatory for a PAL DVD.

You should try BesweetGui or Belight instead of Headac3che. It can handle MPA.

yea im trying to download belight as we speak but the server seems to be having alittle trouble on allowing me to get that file

and as for non standard VCD i am making sure thats set right, thats what puzzles me,, ive done this before while trying to create a kvcd ages ago and it worked thats why its throwing me off now

but just for reference can you tell me if this is normal.. it puzzles the mess out of me..

upon using dvd2avi my files came out like this

john wayne new.d2v (478 kbs in size)
john wayne new MPA T01 DELAY -33ms.mpa (274 mbs in size)

now i know this is a very old movie and yes it has color in it, from what i can tell, so how can a dvd rip with decryptor go from 4.26 gigs to the files that i just posted ???

could this be why im having trouble..

and also yes your right i mean burn it in nero,, that was a typo what i typed before lol

but as for vcdeasy now that baffels me because when i used to use it before it only increased the file size from 10 to 15 mbs,, so this time just blows me away at it increasing it at over 100 mbs bigger

let me know if i need to post more information,, about this project

i must say i tried even using diko to do my encode of this but the file size after encodeing was very bad and it was only around 300mbs in size then also.. thats why im trying to encode it the good ole way,, its best i really stuck it out this time and learned properly on kvcding,

ok heres an update

it turns out i had it on simple multiplex --> mpeg-1 system automatic..

i did what you said i put it on vcd non standard and wow that jumped the file size up to 997 mbs

and the files used were
john wayne new MPA T01 DELAY -33ms.mp2 (91.5 mb)
test.m1v (684 mbs)

now some thing isnt right, how can it jump that high when it should really only be a pinch over 775 mbs ??

Of course it is not normal ! If you do all right in tmpgenc, is it the same in Nero ? Use a release 5.x or 6.x of Nero, the release 7 seems to be crappy.

DVD2AVI (note: you should use its sucessor named "DGIndex", it's far more convenient) only indexes the frames in the VOBs files. The D2v file does not contains the images, that's why it is so small.
Concerning the audio, as ytou can see, your DVD has only one track, and it is not ac3. You did not do anything wrong there.

Settings problem I would say. I did not used it since years so just try to play with the different settings. And please, double check the muxing mode in tmpgenc, this is the main cause of problem like this.

Note: if your player supports this you can also do a SVCD with your MPEG1 file, this is allowed by the format. Just use that mode in Tmpgenc (for muxing) and vcdeasy (for authoring).
