Should vcd audio be encoded as 44kHz or 48kHz?
 

My question is 1 of intrest, what should kvcd audio be encoded as 44 kh or 48 ?

Should I or could I mux together m1v with ac3 or mp3 ?
Or do i have ta stick to hurting mp2 sound or is that the wrong 1 ta use with mpeg1 m1v files ? HELP :(

I'd suggest you stick to 44.1Khz for compatibility reasons. And mp2 audio won't hurt at all if you use HeadAC3he to encode it ;)

It'd be kinda tight ta have ac3 sound with mpeg1 kvcd

You can't have AC3 audio with (K)VCDs or S(K)VCDs. It's not supported :!:

I`m going to be putting my encodes together on DVD, (soon as I get it) and was wondering...
Do you think it`s a good idea to use 48kHz for audio (my stand-alone player supports it, with SVCD)
on my Mpeg2s, to by-pass having to redo the audio later for DVD???

Not that it`s all that big a deal...but it is one more thing, I might not have to do.

If your player supports it, then by all means go ahead :)
I myself only do 44.1Khz, because of the 5 DVD players I have, only one supports 48Khz audio when playing MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 video as VCD/SVCD :?
So I stick with 44.1.Khz unless I'm doing a KDVD.

Kwag, could you tell me the make/model of that player of yours that supports 48Khz mp2 audio? I know someone looking to buy a new player and they'd like it to support kvcd with 48Khz audio. Unfortunately, I can't recommend my player to him because it is no longer in production or available.

And other than the good advice of "take a kvcd with you to the store and try it out on as many players as possible", do you happen to know of any other kvcd compatible players that support 48Khz audio? I'm affraid none of stores in my friend's area have test models hooked up for customers to try (small area), so relying on trial-and-error and returning uncompatible players would be the only option for him. :x :roll:

It's the JVC XV-F80BK 7 disk changer :)
It eats just about anything you throw at it. But keep MIN bitrate at 300Kbps.

Thanks Kwag and Vico1 for the details about your players. :) I think I'll start up a new thread in the Dvd Players forum so I can hopefully get some more 48Khz-compatible feedback from others. The more to choose from, the better the odds of my friend being able to find one.

Just for the record I use 48khz because my player supports it and it saves a bit of time during audio conversion.

Exactly my reasoning for using it too! It also sounds a bit better than 44.1Khz audio...maybe not noticeable to some people, but the sound just seems deeper/richer to me.

Audi2honda, could you check out my post in the Standalone DVD Players Forum and let me know if your Panasonic fits my description there? Many thanks. I know my buddy mentioned seeing some Panasonic players at his local store, so that would be great if it's a match!

lol I don't mind,
I'm 1 of those that wanna get a dvd burner but is not sure of which format to choose (plus minus)
& the dual format burners are like $700 to $800 (plus tax) here in canada :(

So any talk about a sort of a tweaked vcd format that beats vhs
(kvcd not vcd) :wink: Is read & stored in my brain for later use lol

WLA = Wave length adjust. It's probably used in framerate conversions. You'll find it on the 'net, just use Google.
