Working with .BIN files that are KVCDs?

I could use a little help on this. A LOT of the videos I download are in BIN/CUE form intended to be burned as VCDs (which is annoying to no end), and since I don't want to burn a VCD from it, my goal is to extract the actual video with IsoBuster (or WinISO, etc) to a file.

Two probs. First, not even GSpot can tell me what the heck the original file was (Divx, Xvid, Mpeg, etc), so I don't know what extension to give it.

Secondly, none of the software I've tried can extract *only* the video when they're KVCD. Normally, when doing this, you'd see "Track 2" listed, and you'd tell it to filter out only the Mpeg stuff, and bingo, a couple of minutes later you've got your file, and it's a lot smaller, cuz all the VCD-only gunk has been filtered out. KVCD files, on the other hand, always show only "Track 1" and even though extracting and filtering the video data from the DAT file seems to work (and yes, the result still plays), it's friggin huge, and all the extra stuff is still embedded in the file. For instance, a DAT file may say it's 800 MB, but we all know that actual video is only 650, but when you extract it, guess what? Yep, you end up with an 800 MB file. Might as well not even bother extracting it and just rename the DAT file. Blech. Anywho, does anyone have a clue how the heck to extract a KVCD video from a DAT, and actually filter out all the extraneous VCD garbage, so I'm not wasting a ton of disc space?

Thank you. :)

We ??? Who are "we" ?

IF you are talking about "us minus you" then "we" all know that a VCD disc contains video up to 807 MB.
You (us minus we) should stop DLing things and doing your owns at least once and you will acquire the knowledge that will make become like us.

For your final question "we" generally used vcdgear to extract the DAT as a EIGHT HUNDRED MEGABYTES mpeg that IS the video !

I find it interesting that you rush in here tossing insults left and right, and claim I don't know what I'm talking about, when YOU clearly have no clue what it is I'm referring to. Why don't you try taking your own advice.

Now, let me try this again. A VCD contains more data than just the video. Quite a bit of data, actually. If you look at the DAT file, it will often be much larger than even what the disc is supposed to hold. I've seen DAT files over 800 MB before. That extra data is there for the VCD only. If you move the raw DAT file off of the disc onto your hard drive, for example, it will remain that size, but if you open it with an ISO program, you can extract only the video portion, which is much smaller. You'll see it listed typically under Track 2, and it will be the second item down, and will show the true size of the file. Extract that, filtering out everything but the video, and you'll have your movie without needing to go the VCD route. WE, meaning all of us that have been doing this for years, know that. Terribly sorry that info never made it to France.

Anyway, I've found and solved the problem already. I hadn't done this in awhile, and I completely forgot to open the CUE file first (I'm using IsoBuster in this instance, if you're curious), which gives the program the needed info to "see" the other tracks so the actual video could be extracted. I was in error assuming that it was due to the file being KVCD in origin, and for that I apologize.

Nevertheless, now that I've seen the quality of the company you keep, and seeing as how I came here for help, was making my first post, and just getting introduced to this forum, and was immediately flamed by someone with far more attitude than knowledge, I thank you for the small amount of time I've taken up, but won't be returning.

Sorry to hurt you but it clearly seems that YOU don't know what you are speaking about. And I will explain you again where and how.

You know, i'm MAKING VCd (not Dling) since years. And I know exacly what is on them and what is the size of the video they contain (and the DAT file resulting from them).

Not very much. Maybe one or two megabytes. That are the authoring datas. But nothing more (unless you have menus and stuff like that of course).

The 807MB is without any overburn, but a disc can contain much more (some says they have done VCD with 840MB video, that I never reach personnaly).

Again you are wrong. All people that know how a VCD is done will tell you that : The DAT that is burnt on the VCD is the mpeg file MINUS the header. It is so SMALLER than the MPEG itself.
Nothing is added to the file ! You can do a byte-per-byte comparison between the two.

My turn to be sorry to see that this info never reached your home.

It seems that you extracted BADLY the track in 2048 bytes per block mode where VCD use 2352 bytes. For sure, doing that, you turn the file from 800 MB into 650 but you definetly corrupt the mpeg.

Once again if you knew a little what you are talking about (and not supposing I DO NOT) then you will know about mode1 and mode2 burning mode.
(edit : but I see that you indirectly relate that just after, when speaking about cue file)

You make me laughing SO MUCH by pretending more people than you do that that I won't be hurt by your attack.

Let me know one thing : if that works so good, WHY ARE YOU HERE TO ASK YOUR QUESTION ?

As you are doing that since years, that seems to me that you don't have any problem ? Or you like to do silly things during years before to ask for help ?

That's so sad... We had so much to learn from someone that is part of a population abble to turn a 800MB VCD into a 650MB file :-)
