Nero overburn: minutes vs. MB
Newb alert -- first-time poster: 8O
Question on Nero and overburning.... Okay, so 700MB/80min CD-R can hold 700MB of data -- but if data format is MPEG1/MPEG2 file, can hold 800MB and "beyond".... Here's my issue...I encode a KVCD-template MPEG1..nice manageable file of 87min, 749MB. I go to do "non-standard" VCD burn in Nero, but it shows me as (obviously) over the "700MB" limit. Question 1A: Why does it try to limit me to the 700MB? I thought if it's a VCD/SVCD burn it should recognize that the limit is 800MB... So then I try "overburn" setting...if I key in anything less than "87min", Nero spits out the CD. Only if I key in > 87min does Nero attempt the overburn (but fails). Question 1B: What's up w/ this "minute" thing?? I thought the whole point of KVCD templates is that you can fit 120min of video onto a CD-R. If I've got 87min of MPEG1 video in 749MB of space, is NERO oblivious to the file size (749) and limiting me b/c of the minutes (87)? Question1C: Whole thing seems not to make sense to me....why do minutes matter if my file size (749) is way below the 800MB limit anyways?? Okay, appreciate your help in setting me straight -- THANKS |
Did you unchecked the option show compilation size in the Nero status bar ?
Check on "file" , "preferences" and "general", its the 5th item on the general screen. Maybe this is the problem, cos, if this option is checked, Nero will try 80 min and 800Mb, so, if one of them pass this limits, Nero will stop. Hope could help  Pacodoni 8) |
File size vs. movie length
I am having the same issue. It seems pretty consistent, but I can't figure out the reasons.
Namely, when I create an MPEG2 file, I can't burn anything over 700MB, regardless of the length of the movie. When I create an MPEG1, I can burn up to 800MB. Can anyone post the file size limitations for burning an MPEG 1 and MPEG2 movie with Nero 5.5? Thanks, Joe |
For both, MPEG1 and MPEG2, you can fit 800mb file in an 80min CDR.
The difference is the way you multiplex them. If you mutliplex the MPEG2 as SVCD, you are OK, but if you multiplex the MPEG2 as MPEG2, them the burning software (Nero, VCDEasy) will add padding information to your file (more them 100mb!) on the fly. Multiplexing
In all of my burns, I am using TMPGEnc with the KVCD templates. Maybe this is the problem.
Does TMPGEnc multiplex as MPEG2 or SVCD when I use the KVCD templates? Maybe I'll try remultiplexing as SVCD to see if Nero quits adding the padding. |
WOW!!!
I used TMPGEnc to re-multiplex my KVCDx3 files as SVCD and Nero works great now! My 700MB file (that Nero swears is 850+) is now really 700MB and ready to burn.
I haven't tried viewing them yet, but if there is no difference, then I will simply mod the KVCD template to multiplex as SVCD/VCD instead of MPEG2/MPEG1 system stream. Maybe someone knows is this was an oversight in the creation of the templates or if there is a real reason why the x3 templates do not generate a true VCD/SVCD stream?? |
Hi joecross98,
Yes, you're right. Thanks for pointing that out. I did set the KVCDx3 MPEG-2 templates as MPEG-2 VBR and not SVCD. I'll update the MPEG-2 x3 templates to produce SVCD stream instead of MPEG-2. As for the KVCDx3 MPEG-1, they are correct since they were released. They create "non-standard VCD", which is the way it's supposed to be. Not "Standard VCD". -kwag |
