Multishrink batch processing for DVD Shrink (reauthoring DVDs)

Hi Guys,

I know you probably have already heard of it but in case some of your haven't I thought I would bring it to your attention.

I accidently came across this thread ages ago and finally got round to testing it out. It allows you to backup multipal DVD's via DVDShrink.

What prompted me to use this tool was I bought my girlfriend 3 DVD's for her birthday and she wanted me to make some backups for her.

Now normally I would use DVD-RB with RB-Opt so I can do the OPV and use the KVCD matrix.

However seeing as this is so long winded and because I had 3 DVD's to backup and would have to mess around with the Prepare/Encode/Rebuild phase for all 3 DVD's, I thought I would take the DVDShrink route.

I ripped the 3 DVD's with DVDFab Decrypter to my HDD.

Then I opened up 3 instances of DVDShrink, clicked the Open Files browsed to the rip folder and made my setting to each movie, but instead of my destination being a DVD, I select 3 seperate folders for my destination.

Movie quality was about 60%-70% Quality which I thought was bearable.

Once I made my settings on all 3 instances of Shrink, I selected the AEC and deep analysis and don't press the o.k button. Instead I launched the MuliShrink icon and away it went processing the movies.

I selected the shutdown option on MultiShrink, went to bed, when I woke up in the morning the PC was switched off and there were my 3 DVD's backed up in their seperate folders just waiting for me to burn them with ImgToolBurn.

I was really impressed with this add-on tool and my girlfriend was pleased with the quality of her backups. I just thought I would share my results with you. :)

Read about it >>>here<<<

Just be carefull, this give probably highly fragmented vob files and you can have problem when burn at hight speed.

Thanks for the heads up Phil, I have watched 2 out of 3 of the movies and fortunately they playback fine. Also I burned them at 2.4 speed on my DVD+R so hopefully I won't suffer any problems.

I shall bear this in mind in the future with higher burn speed of 4x plus and watch out for that.

Does fragmenting occur even if you have defragged your hdd?

It's just a general thought, I don't know how the multishrink works but if he proceed with the THREE Shrink jobs at the same time, then yes, you can't avoid fragmentation. The only way to avoid that is to have DVDShrink to do pre-allocation of a big 1 GB file before to write into it, that it does not.

Oh no Phil maybe I didn't explain myself properly. I does the conversions one at a time, one after the other. My word if it did all 3 at the same time my poor PC would grind to a halt.

Sorry I didn't explain myself properly. I processes one movie waits until that has finished and the conversion finished screen comes up. Waits 60 seconds closes that window then proceeds to do the next conversion.

It really is a neat tool and sits as a small icon in your taskbar. :)

using MultiShrink 1.4

Zyphon,

How the heck do you use this software again?I installed it and followed you message pad instructions to the Tee. It is constantly not opening and giving me an error message BACK UP WINDOWS FIRST - TERMINATING SCRIPT. I thought it might be a corrupted file so redownloaded it and installed it after uninstalling and a restart of the old one. Same thing keeps occuring. Is this software now bugged. I am using DVD SHRINK V. 3.2 and running windows XP pent4 120GB HD - Defragged.
Any Ideas how to fix this its driving me nuts!!
Many thanks,
BBear. :x
