Hi Phil,
Does imgburn fail on you often? imgburn has never failed on me, not even once, not even in it's early days. And neither have dvddecrypter in burning mode. Im puzzled :?. |

To say it simple: I bought 100 TY DVD-R recently and the 3 that failed ... were due to Imgburn ! |
Man, that's heavy duty! :?
Have you droped Luke a message or a PM at his forum? I'm sure he would want to know what's wrong. I know you are a very experienced user when it comes to computers but first things you should be looking out for would be: - get rid of M$ SPTI and/or uninstall any Adaptec ASPI drivers and install Nero ASPI manager by copying it's DLL to the folder where you installed imgburn. - Never have any Roxxio software installed -> even after you uninstall it burning will never be the same unless you restore a good registry backup :( - remove your IDE disk controller and restart Windows so that it finds and installs your IDE controller and so that it enables DMA on it. Usually Windows will tell you that DMA is active but sometime it isn't and the only way I know to fix this is by reinstalling the IDE controller. BTW, does the coaster show you any error message when it fails? Cheers Phil |

You're saying that it even comes from the DVDDecrypter times? I don't find ImgBurn overrated. But I find Nero bloated. There is even a nice tool to remove a lot of crap from Nero but as far as I know it only works with Nero 6.0. Here, take a look http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?...dpost&p=309630. With NCAB you can build a Nero 6.6 installer free of CoverDesigner, SoundTrax, StartSmart, MediaHome, PhotoSnapViewer, ShowTime. Of course you can choose which tools you want to keep in your new installer and you can even remove the Yahoo toolbar :). Quote:
Best free ASPI drivers that a man can find . Just unzip the DLL and copy it to \windows\system32 or copy it to each burning program path. It's just that easy :). Quote:
I just wish everybody would do the same . Quote:
Well if it ain't any of the above mentioned, I really don't know what to say. Even because as you are saying that this is a well known bug. Strange though that I can't find any thread at ImgBurn's forum about it. :? Could you point me to it? I am curious because it's not about any superiority. It's all about reliability and I always found ImgBurn was a very reliable product. |

Note that I have a 1.3 Ghz P4 and a winXP pro SP1, that's probable a situation not very common, and the reason why you never see about that problem elsewhere. Quote:

Well, just want to let you know that we have a PC at work that works basically as a DVD server .
Which means that all the users who don't have a CD/DVD on their workstation will have to get their butts off their chair and use that workstation to burn their discs using files from the fileserver. Now, since that PC is only used for that purpose we had it formated, installed WinXP Pro SP2 on it (CD made with RyanVM's update pack, one of the first ones I downloaded). Then this PC usually get's all it's updates through our WSUS server. This PC is a PIII550 with 128MB with a 10GB harddrive. There's room for XP, Office XP, McAfee and not much more other wise we don't have space for the swap file and for a full DVD5. We installed Nero 6.6 (the pack #1) along with ImgBurn. All works well and we only had a 25 DVD cake once that refused to burn with our setup. The DVD burner is an LG similar to mine. Of course with such a limited PC we usualy burn CDs at 16x (or at 8x when files come from the fileserver in busy hours) and DVDs at 2x. Everything has been working like a charm for more than one year now :). I thought I'd share our experience. Cheers |
