what software is good for DVD-Burning?
Hi all!
I just got myself a Pioneer DVD-Burner from eBay for 211 Euros... (that's about the same in dollares... ) Yeah I'm kinda drunk so I don't know if this is a good deal, but anyway... now i got it... Now I have tons of questions... what software is good for DVD-Burning? Can I fit more than 4.7 GB on one DVD-R somehow ? Can I burn a DVD-R as a Non Standard VCD or does it have to be burnt as a DVD to be recognised by my Standalone? |

Now you can play with KDVDs :D. You'll be able to fit ~4.5 hours on one DVD-R using the full D-1 or ~8 hours using the half D-1. Maybe even more by using file prediction. One great program is ULEAD's DVD Workshop. You can't burn DVD-R as Non Standard VCD. That doesn't work. You will always have to burn as DVD so the media will be identified in your standalone. -kwag |

I know it will not be DVD Compliant If I use the new GOP, but are you sure there's no way to put MPEG-1 non standard video material on a DVD-R, so that a player recognises it as a VCD? |

Well alright... now I wanna burn my first DVD-R tomorrow... hope this works... I have NO clue how to do this... Is MP2 for Audio DVD-compliant?
Can I burn it using Nero too? Man this stuff throws me back way further than I thought! I feel like I just started with video encoding again... |
DVD-R File
I know as of right now you can't use an authoring program to put KVCD x3 on a DVD.
BUT, can you just copy the mpg file only like on a DATA CD-R? I know that some players will play a KVCD mpg file without actually burning it to a non-standard VCD. I know Phillips 724 is one of those players that can play an mpg file off of a CD ( I only know this from reading different message boards ). So if any one wants to burn a DVD with a KVCD mpg and try it on a Phillips at a friends or a store :D |

You might want to try it on a DVD-RW and test it, before actually burning to a DVD-R 8) Just remember that you must use MPEG-2, encode at 23.976 WITH 3:2 pulldown, and audio MUST be 48Khz. Then run DVDPatcher to match your .m2v file and mux your video and audio. I tested this on my DVD players, and it worked an all :o ( Just another KVCD "non-standard" tip to piss the "Standards" purists  ) -kwag |
Now that's exactly what I wanna do!! Where can I get DVD Patcher?

Main site ( In German ) here: http://mitglied.lycos.de/dvdpatcher Edit: You should be able to fit at least 4 movies on a DVD-R. That's ~8 hours  :ole: Note: REMEMBER to set MAX number of frames per GOP to 18. If you don't, DVD authoring programs will not let you import the mpeg file. Your best bet is to take one of the KDVD templates and modify the output resolution to 528x480. You might want to try the new GOP 1-12-2-1-24 BUT change that last 24 to a 18 Everything else should be the same. -kwag |
That would be 15 for me since our standard is PAL right?
Still sucks that those authoring programs won't let you import longer GOPs... ah well... oh yes... my player only accepts 544x576 resolution for KVCDx3... would that still give me a higher compression? Well I guess so right? |
