is it really dangerous to overburn with nero according to the warning that it gives us before burning???

my file is 80:52 minutes and capacity of discs is 79:57...

what can it damage???

no, it´s not dangerous, the warning is exaggerated
if overburning failes, your cd-r will not be played by your dvd-player.
that´s all

I did overburned a CD almost 1,5 minutes, and it worked fine.

I once tried to overburn an 80 minute CD to almost 90 minutes.. :lol: The burn was successful... no errors. 8O But nothing could read the disc after 82:30.. :?

Is the problem with overburning, the risk to the burner, or is there also risk to the player the burnt disk is put in?

In my case my burner supports over burn and CD's upto 99min, so I don't have a risk with burning, I just concerned as to what the burnt disk will do in another player.

Screen savers used to save a screen from burn in... now it just stops power management from kicking in sooner and actually helps shorten the life on monitors.

Overburn used to cause issues because it would make the laser attempt a position too far outside of spec and could cause calibration issues with the player. This is back in the days when many burnt discs... burned at 1x or 2x still only played back on the burner they were created on...

Things have changed bigtime. I overburn more than 50% of my discs. When using cheap media I definately get read errors about 10% of the time after 82:00 - 82:30 or so but I have been able to recover the data using CD-R recover tools that I found as sharware. It only happens 5% or less and only when writing something like a movie. If it is individual files I rarely have issues as far as 84:00.

This is true on 3 different burners I am using. (Liteon, Buslink, TDK).

the overburn problem with old players and burners
was mechanical, not eletronical....

some models can't go more than the disc "edge" cos
the "box" with the laser lens don't have "phisical space" to go.
(few milimeters). i have one old toshiba player with this problem,
he plays 74 minutes but don't 80 minutes.

Ah! so overburn is unlikely to damage players playback, with some of the older players, it may just not be able to reach the edge and therefor not playback.

Does anyone know how I can tell if the overburn has been successful when burning with VCD Easy?

Search on the net a tool called "CDCheck".

By the way if your burning failed, you have an error message on the screen of VCDEasy. No message, no error.

The opposite is not necessary true : sometimes you have an error at the very edge of the disc but... this one is still readable !

Put it into your DVD reader, and jump to the end of the movie to check if you can read it.

it's just a few more size and if your burner can burn
80 minutes cd, then will do this job with perfection.
