Freeware version of VCDEasy (1.1.5.2) download?

Since VCDEasy is no longer free I thought it would be nice to post a link to the last freeware version - 1.1.5.2 that is.

http://www.vcdeasy.org/modules.php?n...FzeV92MS4xLjQ=

BTW, they (VCDEasy.org) are looking for mirrors to host the file. Maybe you could help them out, kwag? Just a thought...

I believe that version 1.1.5.2 is the one that expires :!: 1.1.4 doesn't.
About the mirror, if they want to pay me for the monthly bandwidth the downloads will suck, I'll be happy to mirror their files. Because I get charged for monthly traffic ;)

Hi kwag,
According to their website the 1.1.5.2 version is the same version as VCDEasy 1.1.5, but with no expiration and no donate links :D .
About my hosting question - It was just a though... No hard feelings  ?

But is 1.1.5.2 crippled somehow :?:

No Kwag. It seems (as I tought) that the hidden expiration date of 1.1.5 was a very bad idea and the author of the soft received a LOT of mail about this.

So he has decided to do a very last free version by removing the expiration date from 1.1.5 and called the release 1.1.5.2.

Great to hear that :D

Thanks,

I have tried 4 times to download 1.1.5.2 and each time its incomplete and currupt, instead of being 9.9mb's I get 4.38mb or less, something seems amiss.

@ DKruskie..

Looks like you're right. I keep getting bombed out after ~1.2MB D/L.
Maybe wait till later. Probably very trafficy.

I kinda thought it might be traffic, good thing I still have 1.1.4

I paid for 1.1.6

I paid to get the 1.1.6 version.

A few days later I received an e-mail from the author appologizing for the expiring version. He wrote that a new 1.5.2 version is now available as freeware and will never expire. However, it will not be updated either.

He also offered me a full refund on my 1.1.6 version if I wanted to just stick with the 1.1.6 version.

I really thought the author was a jackass for complaining about donations. He had a point but you can't do something for free because you expect donations and then get pissy when it does not happen. He wrote so much stuff about "free forever" that it really made me mad when the $10 fee showed up.

However, it is the best VCD authoring tool right now and I did not want the hassles of expiration so I paid.

Now that he send the e-mail and more fully explained his position I have more respect. I am going to keep the paid copy because I would like to have access to new features.

Plus... I am hoping my ideas for new features will take more importance since I "donated".

The main point here being that the new... non-expiring version is 1.5.2. The registered version is 1.1.6 for now. Only the registered version will get updates.

Can you list the new features and tell if, for you, it worth the (little) fee ?

I faced to this also. GO directly to the site of VCDeasy (www.vcdeasy.org) and click on the 1.5.2 link. Then select "tucows mirror" and you'll have access to a list of mirror that can give you the soft.

Its much better than letting the site choosing a mirror randomly.

mikesbytes 07-01-2003 07:53 AM

Is there any new features in 1.1.6 ?

There is a method to use v1.1.5 with no expire-quit:

Switch your WIN systemclock back to april2003 and start 1.1.5, ... do your job ... and after all close vcdeasy and switch back to the actual date in the WIN systemclock!

Dialhot 07-19-2003 11:48 AM

Great info ! Now we can trash this useless version 1.5.2 of VCDEASY that don't have ANY limit time and continue to use the old 1.5 that is exactly the same one, but with a time limit.

jorel 07-19-2003 12:37 PM

yes Phil,

changing version 1.5.2 of VCDEASY that don't have ANY limit time
for v1.1.5 and Switch the WIN systemclock back to april2003,
seems... incredible:
