I broke my AviSynth!

This may or may not be a common error ive done a search but the search button just bought up some weird results nothing helpful.

I recently started having a problem with avisynth scripts taking ages to load (as in minutes!!!) within tmpgenc. So I tried reinstalling, didnt help so I tried to delete completely the avisynth directory then reinstall.

Anyway shortly afterwards (so maybe its related) when i try to load a .avs file in either media player or tmpgenc or even gspot I get an error which says MSVCP71.DLL is missing. So I thought Id do a search on the net for it and found a .dll with the same name. Anyway I try this file and it crashes out without loading anything. So I delete it and its moaning about msvcp71.dll again.

Will I just need to bite the bullet and reinstall windows or does anyone else know whats going on. So far it only seems to have affected .avs files. Even moviestaker doesnt work anymore, crashes as soon as I try anything remotely .avs related, ARGGGHHHH!!!!!

:(

PS) Im running Windows XP Pro with SP1 if that helps at all.

AS all M$ product winXP NEEDS to be reinstalled from scratch every 6 months. So...

Thanks for that constructive answer :D

Ok short of reinstalling windows can anyone who is using windows xp with avisynth at least tell me what directory the dll should be in and its filesize. That way if its a windows dll I can at least re extract it from the .cab files.

Hi zanny,
I'm not using Tmpgenc anymore but I am using WinXP with MEncoder.
My system doesn't have the MSVCP71.DLL.
And I sure can feed AVISynth scripts into MEncoder without that dll.
So I would go Phil's way: is it over 6 months you reinstalled WinXP on your system :?:
Although it's not a fancy way, it sure is the ultimate way to cure such a problem.
But before that make sure you have installed readavs.dll so that Tmpgenc can read AVISynth's scripts and
check that you have XviD codec installed so that Windows Media Player can read those too.
Cheers

Just a quick update.

Reformated my pc put tmpgenc avisynth virtualdub on and I had the same problem! So I reformated again.

This time so far all ive installed is avisynth and nothing else and so far so good. Maybe its possible the latest version of virtualdub is breaking something?????? I dunno but im gonna install one thing at a time and retest so at least if i break it i should be able to go back to an earlier restore point.

If what you call "last release" is 1.5.10, there is no prob with it.
