how do I convert 25FPS TO 29.970 FPS to burn on dvd?
 

Hi,

I've recently bought a setof vcds and want to back it up onto a dvd.. it says 25fps, how do I change the fps to 29.970? . I want to add srts to it but will the srts be affected by the change in fps? what should I do to compensate for it?

Encode the video in MPEG2 at an NTSC resolution but at 25fps, then use DGPulldown and do the pulldown from 25fps->29.97fps. You don't have to touch the audio - unless it's not 48kHz. If it's 44.1kHz, you must re-encode the audio to 48kHz, just don't adjust the audio speed.

There are numerous tools for handling the subs, Subtitle Workshop is a good one.

How to encode an mpg 1 into mpg2 >? do u you mean use the mpg2 kvcd template? WHere id DGpulldown? in tmpgenc?

Encode to MPEG2 just as you usually do, just select MPEG2 instead of MPEG1 in TMPGEnc or whatever program you use.

HI I've never encoded mpeg1's to mpeg2's before... I know this is late but I've had time recently to start this project... previously I have only encoded mpeg2 to mpeg1....

I've read around the forum and know that you can only burn mpeg1 onto dvd if the fps is 29.970... my vcds are 25.000fps, if I change the audio frequency to 48hz will it be okay???? I just want to burn the mpeg1 onto a dvd because I know that further conversion will worsen the quality of the mpeg1 and the size of the file may increase. Is there anyway of doing this without changing it to mpeg2 because I want to cram 10 episodes onto 1 dvd.

If there is no way of doing it besides the method Boulder has spoken about.. do I continue using directshowsource scripts for avi' and use the dvd template, or do I just change mpeg2source to directshowsource in the dvd script and use the dvd template?

I know this is a pain and I am very sorry. THis is my very first time doing this, and I have read posts saying vcd to dvd but they never state the fps. WHich makes it very difficult for me.

Like I said, exactly the same process except that you choose MPEG2 as the output format in TMPGEnc. Then open this encoded video (NTSC resolution but at 25fps) in DGPulldown and do the pulldown from 25fps to 29.97fps. Re-encode the audio to 48kHz unless it already is so, do not alter the playing time in any way. Use the pulldowned video and re-encoded audio in your DVD project.
If you have to do a PAL->NTSC conversion, you cannot avoid re-encoding.

okay I just want some clarification. In the mpeg setting of tmpgenc do this - video stream type setting - stream type - change from mpeg1 to mpeg2... yes??? I'm not too sure... but I read another post and it seems like that person did that. on the bottom of tmpgenc it says mpeg 2 - 29.97fps... am I right?

MPEG2, frame rate 25fps, DC precision 9 bits, non-interlaced, video format PAL. If you set video format to NTSC, the program probably won't let you use 25fps as the frame rate. Make sure you use an NTSC resolution.

for mpeg1 files that are 23.976fps do I use this method to convert to kvcd for burning onto a dvd... or do I continue BP's guide and make it into kvcd, then use the program you told me to use in this post? By the way thanks for your patience and your speedy replies

You use this method for the 25fps->29.97fps conversion.

Try it out on a short clip with a rewritable disc.

do you mux as mpeg1 non -standard or mpeg2?

It depends on what your player will take.

I burned it on a re writable dvd but I notice that 1/2 the episodes sound is slightly slower. I merged part A & B together in the script, used headache to convert the sound, then merged it using copy /b, then merge again in tmpgenc. This is the way I always do it. The sound is in sync with the 1st half of the episode just not the second half. Should I mrege with bbmeg instead?

what happens if I set DC precision 10 bits instead of 9 bits as recommended?

Files a little smaller but picture a little softer (blur). Nothing really hurting.
