Avisynth: MPEG2 into AVCHD?

Hello, i got a bluray that read avchd disks, this is mpeg4 muxed in dvd+-r, is it good idea to backup mpeg2 into this?, this means convert them using x264 and then muxing. Is there something i could do with avisynth so the mpeg2->mpeg4 in HD TV wont look so bad?, Do you know any tips for upscaling a bit the video maybe? some filters to apply to cheat the eye?

Thanks for any help.

let ACVHD to HD, there is no real need to convert SD MPEG2 to HD AVCHD.

Anyway if you really want to, I would suggest upsize with spline36 rather than lanczos, and use Limitedsharpen after resize.

The thing is that id like to try backup in x264 high compression playable on my standalone.

Adding grain after splin36 and lsf would help?

I was in the idea to suggest to add grain too

Are there non standard resolutions in HD like in SD? you know like a kvcd 544x480?

Dialhot 07-28-2010 05:01 PM

AVCHD is very strict, as was DVD, but players stick more to the standard than it was with DVD. So limit yourself to exact HD reso, that is 1080 or 720 lines and 1920 or 1280 rows.

Im not gonna upscale, The intention is to use SD 720x480 in AVCHD to get x264 quality compression in the backups with dvd+r. I used fft3d + lsfmod + GrainFactory3, encoded lossless with virtualdub and lagarith for filters, then x264. Turned out great.

As a side note i used multiAVCHD to mux mkv in AVCHD, great freeware software, is like a colossal gui for many great tools, also does menus!

Having a PS3, I'm using it since monthes ;).
Nevertheless, it is very buggy, the author adding too much features at once and never spending time to fix them before new ones to come :o
Be carefull, it does not produce strict compliant AVHCD but something between BD9 and AVCHD, this allows VC1 codec or SD resolution on an AVHCD while the standard refuses them. So the readability is not guaranted on all players.

I do the "Alter Detected Propeties" and mark "HD(DVD) Compilant" so it assume is compilant and encode "AVCHD Relaxed", working great in my standalone. For a fairly new freeware software (1.5 years) that has all this features is pretty pretty good, and builds are updated very often.

Playing God Of War III ?

I'm just using i as a BD player and mediacenter. Never played with it.

Assassin's creed I and II, just because my PC was too weak for them

Is there a benefit in going for something else than a AVCHD? I have a Sony BDP 360.

Dialhot 08-03-2010 01:14 PM

I don't understand the question.
What other thing you want to go to?

tengo6dedos 08-03-2010 01:59 PM

Sorry, i mean that the software has many outputs, like bluray, ps3, avchd,

just wondering..

Generally players can read AVCHD or BD9, not both. Sony being one of the fathers of ACVHD, generally its models read AVCHD.

Between strict and relaxed, with a Sony you can use relaxed. The difference is only in the way menus are generated.

Forget PS3 as you don't have it, it's for reading from an USB disk, only by a PS3.
