Avisynth: Missing vsub23.dll?

Okay I think I've been @*#$ing around with my computer too much and may have somehow removed an important dll file. I've been trying to wipe my system clean of all audio/video codecs and re-installing things... In the process nothing is really working anymore!!! Right now whenever I load an avs file in VirtualDub or Tmpgenc I get the error message
Code:

The application has failed to start because vsub23.dll was not found.  Re-installing the application may fix this problem
I'm pretty sure this is some kind of codec issue, either with divx or mp3 audio since I may have removed things improperly and not restored everything.

Could someone please give me some tips on how to make sure my system is "wiped" clean of all codecs and then good sources to download new ones? Thanks!

Hi J-Wo,

I'm not sure, but I believe that this file comes with VobSub pack.
But, if you want to download just this file... here it is: vsub23.zip
And please read this post: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=24310#24310

Just one advice... DO NOT INSTALL ANY CODEC PACK!
These codec packs are nothing but trouble, they WILL fuck up your system.

Here is a great article by Blight (author of ZoomPlayer) that points you the right
way to configure your system for media playback: Media Setup

Thanks Muad'dib! Was wondering if anyone knew what my problem was. Your zip file fixed the problem. My next problem is now all my AVS files report the error "Legalclip: Source must be YUY2". Now I can fix it by adding ConvertToYUY2() after the avisource command but I don't know why I'm having this problem in the first place. I think it may have something to do with installing avisynth 2.5, uninstalling, and then reinstalling 2.08. I don't think all of 2.5 went away. Any ideas?

I'm going to try your codec link muaddib and see if that clears things up

To make sure you have only AviSynth 2.08, do a search in your hard drivers for avisynth.dll. Keep just the one in your system32 foulder and delete all the others (if any). Make a script with just version() in it. Play this script on your favorite player and check if it says version 2.08 If it does, you are fine... else resinstall 2.08.

thanks muaddib, I think the codec link you sent me worked for clearing all that up. I checked and found only one avisynth.dll and the version() line confirmed I only have 2.08 installed. However I'm still getting the Legalclip error about YUY2 on any AVS file which uses an AVI source. Any idea what could be having this problem? I've never had this before. If I have to put ConvertToYUY2 for all my avs files will this affect the output at all? I'd rather just find the source of the problem though. Thinking it might just be a bad legalclip.dll, I downloaded it again and extracted it into my avisynth and moviestacker folders, overwriting the old ones. But that didn't fix it.

Edit: Ohhhh boy okay now things are really messed up. Sometimes when I load my AVS files I get the error message "couldn't locate a decompressor for fourcc div3". If I reinstall some of the codecs, like DivX 3, DivX 5, or ffdshow, the error message can termporarily be fixed but then it just keeps coming back. I wonder if I need to reboot after codec installations? Then once I get the avs loaded in tmpgenc I get the old YUY2 error. In one avs file when I add in ConvertToYUY2, the video loaded fine but in the preview screen and when encoding was started, it soon became clear that it was only encoding the first frame for the entire movie. On another avs file tmpgenc simply would not open it saying that it did not reocgnize AVS files. This was even after I uninstalled and reinstalled tmpgenc plus 2.510, and also re-registering the readavs.dll file. I also made sure to change my settings in tmpgenc according the the sticky in the tmpgenc forum.

Please help me if you guys can!

oh and by the way, both these avi's play fine in WMP and zoomplayer.

Well J-Wo,

I don't know what to say... but look like it is really a codec problem.
In fact I don't make many DivX encoding and I don't know what could be the source of your problem.
May be someone more experienced in DivX codecs could help you better.
I just can say that if I was in your place, I would do a format and fresh install of windows.
But this is just me... I do it anyway in about every 3 or 4 months.

Edit: I just read this post...
Look what Boulder and urban tec said:

This happens when DivX3 or 4(?) is used to decode the content. They seem to decode it to RGB whereas DivX5 keeps the colorspace at YV12.
