I need a good BlockBuster line for 480x480/576...

Hi kwag and all,
I need a good BlockBuster line for the above mentioned resolution and to use with the optimal script. I saw this line in the "1CD encode of LOTR-Ext." thread:

Quote:

BlockBuster(method="noise", detail_min=1, detail_max=10, variance=0.7, seed=5823)
But I also read that this line is for 352x240/288 encodes? So what I need is a line adapted for a higher resolution. Thanks!

Hi audioslave...

This line is not motion adaptive at all. It's detail-dependent, so for a higher resolution just use a lower variance, maybe 0.4 will do a good job.

Thank you Jellygoose.
Is it possible to make BlockBuster motion adaptive too? Like the other filters in the MA script? BTW, if I'm gonna do a 320x240 encode do you recommend using a higher ASharp value than (2,4) to get the picture a little sharper? If so, what settings are recommended?

I got good result for this resolution (352x288) by lowering the static blur
on Luma to MergeLuma(blur(0.2))...

@audioslave:

Well it sure is possible, but I'm actually wondering if this would make any sense at all, because all that Blockbuster is doing is adding noise to sections with low detail, to avoid DCT-blocks to pop up.
I'm pretty sure that DCT-blocks are also visible in high action sequences, so in my eyes it makes no sense to make it motion adaptive at all...
Of course I could be wrong though!

BlockBuster does per-frame analysis. I don't remember the setting but there's a way to have it show you that with overlay. Maybe you call it without arguments.

Blockbuster noise is useless above 352x480. Not even SansGrip recommends it.

Okay guys. Thank you for the info. In that case I guess I can skip the BlockBuster line. The encode should be faster that way too. That ain't too bad!

Ok, so at a res of 544X480 what would be recommended to blend the dark area blocks that appear? DCTfilter?
Thanks

Jellygoose 08-02-2003 05:31 AM

Well these dark-area blocks are very hard to get rid of, as I have found. They are usually due to noise in these areas on the source, so you need some good noise remover I think... What I do is increase the luma-blur value a little...
