Is it possible to open .avs files in Pinnacle Studio 8?

Doesn't seem to work as a default, and my brief search for an Avisynth plugin for Studio 8 came up emtpy.

Does anyone know if such a plugin exists?

Try using makeavis, included in ffvfw package. It creates a fake avi from and avs script that opens in most programs.

Dou you have a link for the MakeAvis file? I downloaded the latest avisynth 2.5.4 (and 2.5.5) as well as the ffdshow package, and don't see any documentation on "makeavis".

Thanks,
Icarus

Sorry to bug you with my ignorance, but can you please clarify which ffvfw package you are talking about, or show me the link to the file you are talking about?

I downloaded and installed the ffdshow package and can find no mention of a "makeavis" file.

EDIT: I think I found the file you are referring to here:

Will test it out when I get home tonight, thanks!

ffvfw is not ffdshow :-)

(take the last one in date)

I now have 2 options that should work in theory but they both seem to have problems.

Option 1: Use the makeavis program from the ffvfw package (thanks Dialhot for showing me where to actually find it!!)

It creates an .avi file that I can open in mediaplayer, TMPGenc and virtualdub, but Studio 8 ignores it. Quite strange. It appears as though it is opening the file, doesn't give any error message or anything, but after it finishes "loading" there is nothing on my timeline.

Option 2: Use the VFAPI reader program

This apears to actually work, but with a few minor problems... The fake .avi file opens up in Studio 8, and I can work with it and render a new .avi file.

BUT the rendered .avi file is unreadable by any other program! TMPGenc tells me it is unsupported. The one workaround I found is if I create an .Avisynth script I can use that to frameserve the new .avi file. This still isn't perfect, as when I tried to make a final KVCD out of this file, the video starts to stutter every few seconds. I wonder if the VFAPI reader reversed the field order somehow?

Has anyone actually been succesful in doing this in practice?

Thanks!
Icarus

EDIT: Found the problem - I had to de-select the "Video Output by VFAPI Reader Codec" option, and everything works fine at leat for the VFAPI Reader option. Still can't get it to work with the MakeAvis program.
