Recording Video: AVI or MPEG-2 ?

Sorry if this is a newbie question.
I can only cap at 320x240. Is it best to capture avi and then convert to mpg with kweg's x3 template or should I be capturing to mpeg2 and then convert to mpg?

Thanks,
jbirdg

j,
it may be the video card drivers that arent allowing u to capp higher than x240. Post some info about your hardware/video card. chances are that there is set of drivers that will allow u to capture higher with or without any set of wrappers.
Ideally, you'd want to cap at at least 352x480 (to get both fields) and then resize down to 352x240, kvcdx1,x2 or leave it at x480. For the XXX kvcd, or x3, you could capp at 640x480, and then resize, or leave it at 528x480, if you can capture at that res. To get the best quality capture though; It'd be best to capture with a codec called Huffyuv (lossless, but lots of hd space required) to avi, or uncompressed avi, create an avs script (to use filters such as deinterlace or decomb with avisynth), and then encode to mpg/kvcd.

Thanks el_mero_zooter
What I have is a Nogatech USBTV. It is the same as the Hauppauge USB WinTV. I have looked for other drivers but they seem to all have the same res.
I will try your other suggestions.

Thanks again.
