Philips SAA7133 decoder chip a good choice for capture card?

I'm considering to purchase a capture card. Is the Philips SAA7133 decoder chip a good choice? It's on the asus fm tv card.

Thanks in advance.

As the HardwareLayout to me seems very uncommon for a 713x Card, I cant give an guarantee that this hardware will work with the recommended Driver/Software combination!

How much will it cost?

BTW Inc :) if you were to buy a new TV Cap based on the brooktree chipset bt878, which one would you buy?
No need for fancy 5.1 sound and no special requirement to come with FM receiver, too.
If it has both  better, if not  then it's not so bad either ;-)
You see, I'm also planning on buy me a new one  but I am emphasizing on the tunner quality/price.
Cheers

None! Id buy a Philips 7134 Chip based card as the big comparison challenge at Gleitz.de Forum showed the real advantages of the 9bit 7134 Chip. I did the expereince that these 7134 based cards do got a better anti aliasing etc. They do capture DVD conform 704 and are also cheap.

So a Terratec Cinergy400 is totally enough .. even there are some SAME hardware layout based 7134 cards out there, so you should look at your prefered mailorder store and the given specs there.

Even if you would like to capt. 5.1 Sound ... its not possible due to analogue broadcasting, so only surround based stereo caps are possible.

A nice point, as I ONLY do capture using my s-VHS VCR as tunerdevice and sound will go from s-VHS through my internal Mainboad Sounddevice.

So u should also look at tv-cards.com as that is the prime area related to tv cards ;-)

If you're still set on buying a BT878 based card, I suggest the WinTV GO.
I have one, and it always performed pretty well.

Hi guys :),
Thanks for your advises.
I had a BT878 based cards with a Philips tunner and also had good results.
At least until it broke .
That's why I asked for BT878 based.
But I'll take a look at tv-cards.com just in case ;-)
Cheers

It will cost €45.

Its not worse the risk!
So do spend (IF a 7134 card will be your choice) your money into a cinergy400 as that one will probably cost about 60 Euros/Bucks and it has been tested a very lot.
