Ok I will take screenshot like you said and put them here on the forum. Do I need the 704 X 480 KDVD NTSC template to compress in 704 X 480 or just say to the program 704 instead of 720.
Its ok for the 9 pixels. :) I go in 3 store tomorrow to buy my new computer. Hope I will have it tomorrow and don't wait 1-2 week before have it. steeve |
Don't recompress anything. Just capture a short AVI, preferably compressed with HuffYUV or MJPEG. You can do the comparing yourself with VirtualDub's null transform filter (choose null transform, then crop and see how many black pixels there are on left and right).
Don't mistake capturing for encoding, they are two different things. |
Yeah my post was post was confusing. For the test its ok. I will know if my card sample at very high resolution and then scale down to the desired resolution?
I use Huffyuv updated to 0.2.5. thank you! steeve |
If the ~9-pixel borders are seen in the 720x480 capture, your card doesn't scale -> use that resolution for capturing. If the borders are very small, your card scales -> use 704x480 for your captures.

I took this still with the program included with my capture card because with VirtualDubMod the quality is really crappy, dunno exactly why. With the program included with the card the quality is not crappy but not very good too. If you zoom the picture you can see some / \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \ line in it. This is caused by the card itself? I captured a short movie with AMCAP that I taped this summer and in 30 seconds I got 195 dropped frames in 720 X 480 (with my PIII 800). Do you guys think that my card is crappy or we can't get better capturing? I think I capture much better in 320 X 240 (even when I stretch the preview the movie still with a decent quality compared at when I capture in 720 X 480. Maybe my card doesn't capture higher then 320 X 240? What card do you guys use to have a good quality? steeve |
I have the PHILLIPS 7130 chipset and the 7134 chipset support only 640 X 480... 'Capture and image quality up to 640x480(NTSC), color 16/24/32-bit.' I guess my card don't support 720 X 480.
