Recording Video: Which program to use?
HI,
I want to copy my VHS movies to my harddisk and later on to convert them to svcd..... what program can i use to copy these vhs movies from my normal stereo video recorder to my harddisk... I bought this weekend a video capture card with tv and FM tuner and i got everything working, but when i record a movie than somewhere in the half the program rerecords over the part he already recorded... SO I want a program with whom i can record the whole movie in one piece.... thanks for any advice to a newbie in this subject... greetings funkytaz10 |
Welcome funkytaz10,
First of all, what is your capture card :?: Also, are you running on XP or 2000 ( with your file system formatted as NTFS ) :?: And also, what processor do you have ( CPU, speed ) We need to know that beforehand, just to make sure you have the right hardware. -kwag |
my information
HI,
Sorry forgot to mention that.... SO I have a PIII , 1.2GHZ with 2 HD on from 20 GB and one fast one of 40 GB (7200, 8MB cache) from which 30 GB is free... 390 MB ram My system works win XP pro SP1 and disks are NTFS formatted my capture card is a KWORLD TV878RF , TV TUNER, VIDEO Capture card with fm radio.... I have so far downloaded VEGAS 4.0, virtualdub which i use already for some time to edit movies i take from the internet in avi format, powervcr and windows moviemaker... with vegas and with win moviemaker, do I have the problem that they won't record my sound from the video cassette.... virtualdub also has the same problem, no sound on playback... powervcr looks promissing but i don't have a registered version yet, so i don't know if he is going to record a whole VHS movie in one time.... I am still looking for other solutions... greetings funkytaz10 |
Hi funkytaz10,
You're pretty well set :) You might want to download this: http://btwincap.sf.net Those are probably the best drivers for Brooktree´s Bt848 / Bt849 / Bt878 & Bt879 chipsets. -kwag |
tried to install this but won't work descently...
Hi,
I tried to install these drivers but it won't work descently... the only very good thing i saw was that after installing these drivers i was able to capture in a bigger format in virtualdub... myu capture card supports these bigger formats too, but how to make virtualdub realise that my card does this... In other words where do I have to copy these probaly dll files so virtualdub can find them?? thanks as always for any advice funkytaz10 P.s. any idea where i can download a few extra codecs?? |
hy funkytaz10
welcome in forum. :D a few extra codecs? see in "codecs" or click here: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5045 ps: use the "search" when you need something you will find what you want! :) |
Another important question would be....
Does your capture card have VFW or WDM drivers? For VFW, I would suggest AVI_IO as a capture program. As my capture card does not have WDM drivers, I cannot comment. |
I think WDM drivers
I think wdm drivers...
when it installed , the install program twice metioned WDM and in the decice manager there is also wdm greetings funkytaz10 any way i will give your prog a shot... |

What I have found more important is what you do with the video after it is captured. VirtualDub with it's assorted filters is great and simple to use. Then frameserve it to TMPGEnc and use Kwag's templates. Quality is very good. |
Did you ever get your system to capture at 704x480, 30fps?
I'm interested in buying this card for my MythTV so I'd like to know if it works. BTW, how's the turer - i.e. capture from TV? |
I have also found out that the type of CPU is a factor.
In my older machine I have an AMD Athlon 2000+ on a Gigabyte MB with 384MB RAM. AVI_IO worked flawlessly and I had trouble with VirtualDub loosing frames. I upgraded to a P4c 2.6GHz on an ASUS MB with 1GB RAM. AVI_IO consistantly dropped frames but VirtualDub now works flawlessly. I still have my Winnov Videum 1000 Plus capture card and Winnov's programmers have still not learned how to write WDM drivers so it is still on a VFW driver. |
