VirtualDub filters while capturing videos?

Hey can anyone give me some good vdub filters advise? Im basically capturing from old vhs tapes... ( i mean old) and i was wondering what i could do to bring em back to life (sorta). I realise that your quality is always as good as your source, but i was hoping maybe i could sneak around that :)

Thanks

Yo!

I'm a great fan of Virtualdub, but this link converted me to Avisynth :

Some nice filters like Unsharp are available only through avisynth (at least I could not find a VD equivalent).
Sorry if it's a bit far from your post  , but it might help.
