Keyboard Troubles

Hi Guys,

I use Windows XP Pro and just recently I have trouble with my keyboard.

I have one of those keyboards that have a split half size space-bar.

The right hand thumb is normally the Space and the left hand thumb is another Back-space key.

However a few days ago these keys have become swapped around and I dont know how or what has caused this.

It is really annoying as when I hit what should be 'space' instead it is deleting the characters and is very confusing for my fingers which is so used it being the other way round.

Is there any way to fix this without having to resort to wiping XP and clean install.

Thanks in advance guys. :)

Try to just remove the keyboard driver from the device list (control panel -> system -> devices) then reboot. It will reinstall the keyboard and (perhaps) the deault settings will be restored.

It is very unusual that this kind of keyboard don't have a control panel to select half space bar functions.

Hi Pro it is strange that my keyboard has done this but Windows XP uses it's own drivers for my keyboard and it has always worked o.k

It is a PS/2 Keyboard. I didn't see any options in Control Panel in the Keyboard section of how to fix this.

Once my encoding is done I shall try out what Phil suggested and get back to you all.

Thanks for your input. :D

Hi Phil, I finally got round to trying out what you suggested but it didnt work.

I removed the keyboard, XP found the new hardware again. Rebooted and still my keys are reversed.

I guess my machine is probably due for a wipe unless of course it's a problem with the keyboard itself I shall test it on another machine. :)
