MMajor Problem with my comp.

Okay, this is a long story, hold tight. I was encoding The Patriot and It took about 40 hours because I was using the noise filter in HQ mode in TMPEG (I have an 1800+) Anyways, whe nZI got home my computer said Unmountable boot sector. Come to find out my HD was dead. :( And everything lost on it. :) :)

Then, I get a new HD and when I plug in my HD as master and my DVD-Rom it runs windows great. But when I plug my HD master and my CD burner as slave it sits in the bios saying Detecting IDE drives and will eventually recognize the CD burner but won't recognize the DH. Where in wehich I can't load windows

SO, my questiion is that is it my CD-Burner that's the problem? B/c that's a lot cheaper than my MB. (A Soyo Dragon 7 Plus) I've tried new IDE cables and everything. Also, when I plug my DVD and my CD in thier own IDE cable it produced the same problem. But isf I unplugg the CD-burner it work!?!?!?!?!?!?!? That's the catch so I'm wondering if it's the CD burner or the MB.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx.

hey twobit,

I think that to fix the problem it's just a matter of jumper settings and bios settings. I think I would put the HD and burner on seperate IDE channels. Maybe put the HD on the primary ide set the jumper to master. Put the burner on the secondary IDE and set to master and dvd-rom to slave. My friend has a Soyo firedragon-p4 mb and had a problem with it not seeing his second hd- so we fixed it by enabling udma mode in the bios. These's are just suggestions based on my configuration with my Asus P4B mb :D

If you're more specific about your hardware (brands, etc) and OS you can probably get more help from someone here

Has nothing to do with OS. I can't even load windows when I try because It says there isn't a HD. Yes, I tried the Hd by itself. (Which it is normally how I have it.) on master and CD-R on Sec. Master and DVD on Slave.

Brands:
CD-Burner. Adapti, works great, In fact i used it the night before my HD crashed.
DVD-Rom: Don't remember, and to lazy to fgind the box somewhere.
HD: Western Digital 20gig. (It's a temp untill my replacement 80 gig gets here.)
Athlon XP 1800+
524 Megs of ram.

NOTHING IS OVERCLOCKED!!!! Take Note. That's not why.

That's about it. And what did you meen about "unda mode"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx,
Twobit326.

BTW, does anyone know of a Very good way to take out vocals for a Song? I need to for my roadshow group.

found the answer. The CD-R had to be plugged in independantly of the other 2 drives. Thanx for the help though.
