Kerio PF 4.1.1 released

Hello guys,
Since I've been using Kerio Personal Firewall (free for non-comercial) for quite some time I thought I'dd advise you that there is a new Kerio PF 4.1.1 released a last wednesday.
Not much of improving/bug fixing though:
Quote:

4.1.1 - September 29, 2004
- fixed problems with firewire adapters when they were disabled or computer was hibernated
- fixed bug that rules for some application didn't work
- fixed conflicts with some other software's kernel drivers (like InCD, VitalAgent, ProtectCD, etc). Also known as NO_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS bug.
- IDS no longer detects and drops attacks when user disables firewall
- KPF's IDS ruleset was revised
- fixed bug when connection to closed port was sometimes logged as Kerio VPN
Cheers

Note : I do not use any of the 4x release because of a boring behaviour : when you have an alarm, all traffic is blocked until you confirm (or deny) manually. If that happens during the night, all your PC is unplugged from Internet until you wake up :-(

I always use 2.1.5 that does not have this "problem".

That is quite concerning Phil about the 4x versions I think that is a really bad way for a FireWall to behave as it could mess up things that you could be doing over a network as well.

Maybe Kerio will fix this in later updates.

Hi guys,
Give 4.1.0 or 4.1.1 a try because I've had lot's of incoming red alerts and the "good" traffic keeps coming in except for that one.
Phil, can you try that and let me know?
I'm curious because I can't recreate it.
Maybe it has been fixed 8)
Cheers

It definitely wouldn't be logical to block all traffic in such case. I use v2.1.5 because it works well and it doesn't produce a huge load on the CPU. IMO the v4 series is just bloated.

Hi Boulder,
I didn't know that v4 is bloated because I didn't use v2 .
I am just learning that from you now.
I stopped using BlackIce Defender because it has been very much vulnerable lately as it become very well known.
In such case, and since Kerio v2 is most likely not compliant with XP SP2, which (free for non-commercial use) desktop firewall would you consider using instead of Kerio compliant with XP SP2?
Thank you all for the good tips :D.
Many thanks

The not compliant with SP2 probably means that the Security Center just doesn't recognize it. I have WinXP with SP2 installed and have had zero problems. The minute SP2 was installed, I disabled the Windows firewall it re-enabled and also shut down all the warning prompts regarding Security Center.

What I mean by bloated is that the v4 takes more RAM and CPU power than v2. The older version works just as well, there's just some stuff added and of course, some eye candy, as it is a must these days. If the Task Manager is correct, v2 uses less than 2MB of memory on my system 8O

The one thing I find annoying with Kerio when I changed to that from SyGate's firewall is that Kerio 4x is over fussy in my eyes.

Every time you run a program or run a setup program I tend to keep disabling it as it constantly pops up during installations say this and that and it annoys me a bit. :D

Other than that it seems to be very good at the moment in protecting my pc I hope it can hold out. :)

Does 2x build have application execute information (I dont know how to call this, application spawning   ) :?:
