Dual Core or Single Core?

Hi there,
So far as encoding power is concerned, will a Dual Core CPU with a lower speed (say 2.66G) outperform a Single Core with a higher speed (say 3.4G)? I know the encoding program is one of the determining factors, just assume the test is based on the same encoding program (say TMGEnc), which CPU should I go for?

By the way, is TMGEnc enable to utilize dual core CPU? What about Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0???

Hi syk2c11,

The new dual cores are screamers, but I'm almost positive that if you want even higher performance, then there's nothing like a Xeon or even a 3+Ghz Hyperthreading CPU :)
You'll still get better throughoutput out of that.
The new dual core (DUO) CPUs, however, will consume far less power (watts) than the regular Pentium CPUs.
But if what you really want is speed, then go for a 3+Ghz Intel Hyperthreading, or even an AMD 64 bit CPU.

Hi Kwag,
Thanks for your fast fast fast reply (just as usual when I first joined as a member), and you are still being such a helpful person I have ever met.

So, can I take it from you that TMGEnc is NOT able to utilize Intel dual core CPUs! TMGEnc is not able to divide the tasks into several small parts and let the CPUs do all the small jobs simultaneously? So, a higher speed single core is the one!

Please stop using this bold ugly font to post.

Concerning tmpgenc and dual core, tmpgenc xpress 3.0 is supposed to be enhanced for them, but not the 2.524 version that we all use (basically because 3.0 does not support text templates).

Please stop reading my post then!

(Dialhot : are you talking to me ?
Note: that's just a joke, no offense. Do as you wish even if big fonts never lead to better answers.)

Woow, i don't quite agree on that, for example an AMD 3800x2 beats the *** out of a 3.2Ghz Pentium 4!! And just imagine: encoding in cce and dvd authoring at the same time with no speed loss.

What do you guys think of the upcoming Conroe? VERY promising if you ask me :D

But, isn't that what I said :!:

In reference to a dual core, of course.

 I read it incorrectly, I thought you meant that the single core P4 or AMD is better than dual core

Sorry :D
