IE inside FireFox???

Has anyone seen this https://addons.mozilla.org/extension...irefox&id=1419??
I just installed it and I am simply amazed 8O.
I simply won't need to open IE or Maxthon EVER again.
Even my homebanking webpage and Portuguese I.R.S. webpage open with this thing!
Hell! Even M$'s Windows Update webpage opens and runs perfectly using this extension B).
I guess it's still a bit buggy because "they say" that when IE engine crashes, FireFox crashes with it by sympathy, but I am yet to see such issues on my home PC.
This is what I've been waiting for more than one year :D.
Cheers

Did you managed to link the "windows update" to this extension ? Or do you never go on the site ?

rds_correia 03-18-2006 12:45 PM

Phil, I did go into the WU webpage and I DID update 1 or 2 updates that I still hadn't had the opportunity to update.
Those were not critical because I usually download and install critical updates ASAP.
So, I would believe everything related to IE is working inside FF.
Actually, it is IE's engine working wrapped around FF so there shouldn't be any reason for it not to work.
The great thing about it is that I can keep working with FF and it's engine (Gecko) and just use IE for a couple of sites where I really need IE because the GD SOBs don't allow anything else besides IE .
Even the other extensions like adblocker, etc work while FF is wrapping IE.
This looks absolutely amazing :P.
But there's no way I can tell you that EVERYTHING can be done inside FF.
What I can say is EVERYTHING I NEED can be done inside FF ;).
Cheers

I decided to try it and the first thing I did is to go in the option. And there I saw that by default, the 3 "windows update" site are in the list "always open with IETab" :D

rds_correia 03-18-2006 02:43 PM

Now ain't this cool?
I don't have IE6 installed because I ripped it with nLite but I kept it's engine just in case.
This means that I can use Maxthon, but actually IE6 is gone from my PC.
Now with IETab I can even uninstall Maxthon :P.
I really love FireFox 8)

Wow! 8O

No need to ever open Internet Explorer again!

Hi,

here are the extensions I'm currently using:

Flashgot
http://www.flashgot.net/whats

Adblock
http://adblock.mozdev.org/

IETab
http://ietab.mozdev.org/

PDFDownload (you click on a link to a pdf and chose read/download)
http://www.rabotat.org/firefox/

MAF (save complete pages liek war or mht)
http://maf.mozdev.org/

Scrapbook (quickly "capture" pages)
http://amb.vis.ne.jp/mozilla/scrapbook/

ImageToolBar (like the one in IE)
http://www.cusser.net/extensions/imagetoolbar/

TabX (puts an "X" in each tab to make it easier to close)
http://clav.mozdev.org/#tabx

BBTags
http://ihoss.not-a-blog.com/tagbb.php

BBCode
http://ihoss.not-a-blog.com/tagbb.php

Download Embbeded
http://www.aeruder.net/software/exte...nsionlist.html

Perhaps you find some of them useful.

Great extensions GFR :P.
May I add:

FasterFox - Measure page's loading time and tweak networking parameters to speed-up FireFox.

NoScript - Flashgot's brother. Used to block/unblock JavaScript from pages. Quite useful because you can keep a list of pages that you trust and have it block anything else. JavaScript is a monster that must be stopped .

ForecastFox - Shows Weather conditions Now/Rest of day/Tomorrow.

Gmail Manager - Shows how many new email messages I've got on my Gmail account. A single click opens Gmail webmail page.

TabMix Plus - Pushes tabs to the limits. Also shows a red X on each tab if needed so you can close it easier.
But...what if by mistake I closed a tab? Answer is "undo close tab" :P.

FoxClocks - Shows date/time anywhere in the globe. Usefull when I want to call someone abroad but NOT in the middle of the night .

Adblock Plus + Adblock Filterset.G Updater - No more unwanted ads that clutter my forums/sites.

IETab - IE inside FireFox window  the ultimate browser is here .

I love IETabs, but it would be even better if you were still able to use the firefox search within an IE tab.

The firefox "live" searching is so much better than the way Microsoft handles searches within a web page.

Geee!, thanks Rui and GFR :D

About Fasterfox, a lot sites don't like it because it send to much request and waste bandwith.

That's for the "Prefetch" feature.
I have that disabled, because NO browser can tell in advance where you will click next ;)
So it's really a waste of bandwidth.

And you should also check that the settings for FasterFox are set to "Optimized" instead of "Turbo charged". That way they'll be within the RFC specs.
