my brother in law(strange name to the brother's wife), 8O

have an"pre-historick" hard drive nec dse2100a
with problems (clusters).

i search in web and don't find something
(like "zero fill" used by quantum)
to erase data and turn all to"zero".
i was used "zero fill" in one old quantum and woks very well.
where i can find the nec software that do the same thing?

Do you have a hard drive low level formatting utility? Like AMIDIAG, etc. This will do the same thing. Or if you have a Linux machine around, let me know, and I'll give you a one line command to wipe out the disk

Try this jorel: http://asia.cnet.com/downloads/pc/sw...077366s,00.htm
Even though it's a Maxtor utility, it might work for your drive.
Let me know :)

thanks friend Fred|Flintstone

i knew ,have and used the "zero fill" from quantum.
but only acepts quantum hds,if you use the prog with other "label"
they wrote:
"it's not an quantum hd" and wait for exit!(something like this)

i use the "zero fill" from quantum site in one quantum fireball and
i'm using this hd for backup. works perfect and have passed 2 years .

i think that seagate's program do the same but only for seagate hd!
and i read some more in the link:
...Seagate's exclusive disc drive diagnostic ...
and other tips that suport only seagate hds. :(

hey,for a moment i feel that i was fishing! 8O
see lots of "barracudas": http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/...acuda_ata.html

this is my problem friend , i can't find the software to "zero fill" hd nec.

thank you.
ps:
the pages have lot of good informations!

Fred|Flintstone 03-09-2003 02:33 AM

sorry didnt see that part that it only works for seagate drives...
Try this page:

http://www.computercraft.com/docs/ev....shtml#Progams
clipped from that page:
Western Digital has some very interesting programs available for download that will work on any IDE drive.
....
OK, now wd stopped making wd_clear available for download so the link on that page wont work... But here' is a link to wd_clear.exe that does work
http://ftp.leo.org/pub/comp/os/dos/u...s/wd_clear.exe
just right click on the link and choose save taget as or save link as..

I draw the line at testing the program, cuz all my hard drives have data, and finding out it works woiuld destroy it. Besides i use WD hard drives.

now its time for me to :zzzsleep:
