Detecting viruses, worms, trojans, and more.....

@All,

I'm looking for a good detection program that can identify worms,
trojans, and viruses after they have infected a computer. I have
a friend that seems to have a worm which shutsdown his computer
only after getting on the internet and he tries to go to any website.
It gives a warning using a count down. Identifying the worm is near
to impossible. I'd like to get a programs that at least can identify
what is causing problems. Any and all suggestions are welcome :)

The problem is that lot of recent virus first turn off all known anti-virus and these ones aren't abble to detect the virus if it is already on the PC (they can block it before it installs itself, but if it is already on the disk, it's too late).

All you can do is using a DOS based anti-virus (for instance fprot if is still exist), boot as DOS and launch it.

Yes f-protect still exists, The antivirus f-secure uses it with two other antivirus programs, avp and orion, giving you three antivirus programs in one. I believe this is the websiteF-secure..hopes this helps.

@Dialhot, Dkruskie and Kwag,

Thanks for the suggestions and information. I found a removal program
for W32.MSBLAST.EXE (RPC) worm. Also, got the patch from MS to
fix Windows OS. Finally, got Grisoft AVG anti-virus program and
Kerio firewall. I've had six requests to remove this worm and in each
case the anti-virus program expired and no one is using a firewall.
I use Grisoft AVG and Zone Alarm Pro. Never had a problem (knock
on wood) yet. :D
