KVCD has gradual audio sync issues?
 

Thanks for the help yesterday.

My size issues were quickly solved by making sure to force to 23.976fps while frameserving. Also the 23.976fps SVCDs seem to run 99% correct on my Apex.

Only one little problem, over the course of the film the video seems to slowly lose sync with the audio.

After checking things real quick I noticed on my most recent project, my frameserved video was 2:00:38 in length, while the mp2 was 2:00:44.

I can only assume the problem lies somewhere in those first two steps then.

I'm using this guide:

and using Smartripper and DVD2AVI, then straight to Encoding.

One thing I do, is when I run AVI2MPG2 and I check SVCD, I always uncheck "add SVCD scan offsets" and "Align sequence headers" or else I get errors.

Could that be the problem?

I've tried just converting the mp2 to wav, clipping the extra bit, converting back to mp2 and remuxing. But that whole process requires a lot of trial and error, and takes almost 1 and a half hours on my sluggish cpu.

So my real question is, is there some way to nip it in the bud? Or at least use a program specifically designed to fix this sort of problem?

Did you down sample your audio to 44.1Khz?

Yikes, I assumed that since the settings on the template set things to 44.1 that I didn't need to fiddle around with it during the first two stages.

I looked and saw the option in DvD2AVI >

audio : 48 -> 44.1khz : and I selected ultrahigh

That should fix it?

Ok, I tried converting the audio from 48 -> 44.1khz and on the first movie it worked great!

But apparently that was just a lucky coincidence the the very next video I tried didn't have any sync problems. The next two I've done both have the same sync problems as before.

Any other guesses as to what might work? Or do you know if there are any easy to use graphical utilities that would help me manually sync things up?

Ok an update for those that might be having similar problems.

I've found that after I frameserve and encode my video, my unencoded .wav file is actually a fraction of a second shorter then my video file.

I've started using virtualdub to figure out the exact length of my video to the last frame, then using goldwave to expand the wav to that length before I encode it.

I *think* its working better, but I'll have to try a few times to be sure.

Still no clue how to avoid it at the source tho'

I would try using DVD Decrypter and Mediator instead of SmartRipper and DVD2AVI.

Also WinDVD sometimes plays the audio out of sync too.

I hate audio sync problems :x

I had similar prob too with downloaded DIVx .
After 2 days hardest work found that reason was corrupted block in DIVx file .
Prob solved with cutting resulted mpg at the break point .
Demuxed strings and cutted damaged video and audio streams .
Remux with bbMPEG and Joined with CamilMPEGjoiner .
Result was so nice .... :D :D :D :!: :!:
