Can or can it not handle AC3??

Hi People !

When I was just starting to convert DivX to svcd a couple years ago I never had any problems with audio. Then Xvid came and AC3. Still I had no problem. I just used TMPGEnc and all worked fine. :D

Then the problems started  as I formated my computer. Suddenly TMPGEnc couldn't handle AC3 files or XVID anymore.... for the audio part that is. Just no more sound. DivX with mp3 is no problem.

I installed exactly the same codecs in exactly the same order. So when it didn't worked I tried all diverent codecs but still no succes.

Then this week I thought my rescue had arrived TMPGENC 3XPRESS !!! together with the ac3 plugin a winner...... I thought. Now this shitty program doesn't even do the video well, after a couple seconds it gives a error.

My question is: Can anyone please tell me how I can use either TMPGEnc to convert any file to (K)SVCD, like I use to do? (DivX,Xvid with or without AC3)

I know it is possible cause I used to do it. I've looked everywhere but all the guides say to split the video and audio. I'm lazy.... I care about fast and easy conversion. The quality of tmpgenc was fine for me.

Please help me out!

8O lazy?
 oh boy,...oh GOD,.....oh heaven,..oh oh...,
but this is the very hard way!

fast and easy conversion?
now is better...try DIKO first but you have to download the file and read the guide.
...no lazy to do it please or DIKO don't work!

welcome in forum Boger and forget the lazy way!

A question according to ac3 support : since last week I can't read anymore ac3 files in wmp or zoomplayer (unsupported file). That worked before that !
I'm still abble to read xvids with ac3 (and I have sound, so the ac3filter directshow is correctly installed).

Someone have an Idea about what I miss on my PC ? (surely a parser but I can't identify it :-().

jorel 06-07-2004 08:24 PM

Phil,
don't know what you miss cos i'm using now 98se and tomorrow i will call my ghost image from xp to try to see what you loose.

but try it:

http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/dow..._1_01a_rc5.exe
have ~433k only!
i'm using this filter and i can open ac3(2 and 5.1 channels) in mpclassic, zoomplayer and in "everywhere", work in all windows systems and have cool adjusts!

EXACTLY! That happened to me some weeks ago!
My whole directshow bla bla bla was messed up.

I first used Graphedit to build a media graph by draggin an ac3 in there and .... HELLL!!! You should have seen how many USELESS ds filters that ac3 was trying to pass.
So watch the graph and im shure the first you do is to give some ds codecs/routines lower priorities or you EVEN unregister them.

Now my AC3s do just pass the ac3 filter and the system audio renderer thats it ... wonderful. :)

But watch out I think graphedit tries to register a ligos mpeg splitter when using the reg files that come with graphedit and that one also was responsible for my problem not to get mepg2/vobs working in WMP.
Now everything works.

That's also the problem : graphedit can't even find a graph to parse a ac3 file. So I definitely miss somthing.
Can you please give me the graph it reports for you as everythign is okay on your PC now ?

I have a BIG problem with that because DVDLab produces nothing but SILENCE ! And i'm sure the problems are related :!:

@jorel
As told I already have the ac3filter installed.

Shure! When Im home this evening Ill post it here.

I very sensible now in case of new apps which "add" new ds codecs to my machine as this could screw up the priority of codec allocation related to specific sources!

Remember when I told that the new! ShrinkDVD on my PC crashed?
Also I got problems when doing the preview of the mpeg2enc generated menue image when using the GUI DVDauthor!

That was it why I entered that Graphedit workout. As even mpeg2 or VOBs wouldnt play back in WMP.

My ds allocation was TOTALLY messed up, because of to much "nonsense" ds filters in my system.

When WMP tried to play back a mpeg2/vob the graph FIRST showed after the fileimport the "Ligos mpeg2 splitter"!!! and that ended up in "nothing", so I removed these Ligos filters and automatically now the Invideo (from WinDVD) engines handle my mpeg2/Vobs in the system. The problems in that case went totally away ... ShrinkDVD now works fine.

According to AC3 input:
There have been so many filters called like first "ac3 filter" which is correct, but followd by the ds "matrixmixer" and "Channeldownmixer"!!!! Means all my past AC3s came out as downmixed 2CHs IF dshow for decoding was used by an application. i simply (risky btw) unregistered these (IMHO for my workouts) nonsense filters/codecs.
And a new auto allocation of the CORRECT ds filters happened. I also had to add priorities to some ds filters (in Zoomplayer btw ;-) ).

So as I do remember 99% if entering using an AC3, the graph is like:

 Import  AC3filter  System Audio renderer

and a perfect ac3 based sound comes out.

So did you install the "new" AC3filter??? As I dont have any experiences with that one ... but Ill test it later (when I first have backuped my system as Image to DVD   never change a running system)

Greets
Inc.

PS:!! Btw maybe you can answer me the following:

IF directX draw rendering is activated ... (no matter which mpeg2 decoder is used ... winDVD..elecard etc. ... the output to my screen is much more darker! And it looks like alfully re-rendered in a bad quality way.
SO if I dont use the WinDVD application itself I decided to switch of that directX draw ... and every mpeg2/vob appears totally nice.

:?:

hummmm..

I totally agree ! When I installed once zoomplayer 4.0 all was messed up and I couldn't anymore play m2v files :!: I had to restore a ghost view and return to zplayer 3.30

Here I fear that is Roxyo DirectCD that gave me problem : I installed only this but this shitty app installed all Roxio DS fitlers used for EasyCD Creator :-( I have at least 30 Roxio lines in my installed filters list now and even if I removed them, the ac3 still don't play.

On my "regular" (means working) installation, all my mpeg2 stuff are handled by ligos (splitter and decoder) and I don't want anything else to take care of that because it's the only couple that gives my correct playing time under zoomplayer. Do you have this with Invideo ?

Note: do you have a mean to follow the construction of the graph when graphedit fails to open the file or it's impossible ?
Because I fear I'll never know which is the (wrong) path that is currently used for opening an ac3 file and I won't be abble to remove the involved DS filters :-(

I used to use 0.68 with no problem. When I reisntalled the PC two weaks ago I used the 1.0rc4 with also no problem. It's still on my PC (and it is used when playing a video with ac3) but I can't play any "ac3 only" audio file :-(

It's like if the system needs a "box" before the "ac3 filter" in the graph you related just above and this box is missing.

DirectDraw means direct access to the graphic hardware. If you have a MPEG2 decoding card, you bypass all the software codecs and use only what is wired in your board (that means that you are also tied to the driver, that is still used to send info to the card hardware of course -> perhaps it's buggy).

I think that is all your problems.

i know... oh my GOD,why nobody understand me...seems that i'm writing in english!?!?!
i had the original drives from my creative installed that don't give me 5.1 working in zoomplayer, mpclassic and some other players.
 after i install that filter posted, all players give me 5.1 and the best is that i can adjust all parameters for my personal taste...
--->this is what i try to show you.
cos you posted before:

do you want 5.1 working? :?

incredible 06-08-2004 11:44 AM

Well, an Idea Phil!

Does a single AC3 file also contain a FourCC like Video ????

That would mean (if yes) that the fourCC (or whatever) pointer in your system fails/isnt set or whatever.
Did you try to go into your registry by searching for the pointer where FourCC are allocated to the right codecs/filters???

Maybe in this case it isnt called FourCC but something else.

5.1 IS working but only when it is include in an avi or a vob. Not if I try to read an ac3 audio stream demuxed from the avi (by vitualdub) or the vob (by dvd2avi).

In other words : only .ac3 files do not work.

(and FYI I reinstalled the filter from scratch yesterday of course).

0Inc : I will check.

incredible 06-08-2004 01:13 PM

Phil, I just checked that graphedit when opening an .ac3 file.

Boger 06-08-2004 02:30 PM

Thnx for the fast reply! I have already downloaded DIKO but didn't try it because it uses so many appz. I will look in to it.

My question is: Why can't I just use TMPGEnc just like before?

It's not that im that lazy. About 4 years ago I started encoding with Panasonic MPEG encoder. Worked fine only took ages to finish. Then I discoverd TMPGEnc and I like the quality (good enough) and speed.
It's just that every forum I read or website there is never anyone to explain the fact that some people can convert .avi with ac3 and some can not. They just say split the video/audio its like that. If i knew where to start and have the knowhow, this with be the problem I would solve. TMPGEnc is a great program and it CAN handle everything.......... just not always.... for a unknown reason.

Thank you for the graph Inc.

But

My problem is solved

.

I just used ac3fix, it finds TEN BYTES wrong upon the 285 MB of the ac3 file and... all is okay now :-(

Last week all was working but this was on OTHER sources. Yesterday I test with two files from 2 differents sources, both were problematic and need to be passed throught ac3fix. And trsut me : I NEVER had to use ac3fix before, that was I thought my PC was screwed up :-(
:imstupid:

jorel 06-08-2004 06:03 PM

hey Phil,
next time try delaycut: http://www.iespana.es/jsoto/tools/delaycut_exe.zip (with cool gui)

and besliced: http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Audio/BeSlicedv0.2.zip

works like ac3fix!

Do you see the post of Inc indicating the graph used to render an ac3 files ?
Do you see the post of Jorel indicating the link to the last version of ac3filter .
Do you see the post of mine indicating why it didn't worked on my PC ?

You have all what you need there. First check if you have all installed on your PC, then install version pointed out by Jorel and then try ac3fix !

PS: Tmpgenc DO NOT handle ac3. It never did :!:

Boger 06-09-2004 05:44 PM

Actually TMPGEnc CAN handle Ac3 only not for everyone. And the weird thing is aparantly nobody knows why.

I appresiate al the help and allternatives you have gave me and I will surly look in to them it's just frustrating to know that it can work (i did for me I swear..... before i formatted my comp.)

And what about the new TMPGEnc with the ac3-plugin? I haven't been able to see if i does handle ac3 cause it gives a error when i start encoding. like: invallid sample format. (error code 8x80048002)

This while trying to encode:

23fps XVID with AC3 to standaard ntsc film svcd.

I have installed these codecs (got most from http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=191700 unless newer versions where available)

1) MP3 Codec (Radium)
2) AC3 Filter 1_01a_rc5
3) MPEG2 Codec
4) FFDShow
5) OGG-Vorbis package

after this didn't work i also installed these
AC3ACM v0.7 by fccHandler
XVID mpeg 4 codec

jorel 06-09-2004 06:08 PM

have a new update for the tmpgenc ac3 encoder in the home page to solve problems with "invalid sample format" like you posted!
see the link to update under "about" of your tmpgenc prog!

Because tmpgenc DOES NOT HANDLE AC3 :!:
If it would, it would do so for anyone.

Tmpgenc handle directshow sources and IF you have the proper directshow filter on your PC that CAN handle ac3 and provides a stereo wav from it, THEN tmpgenc will read the ac3.

It can also read them throught an avs script since avs 2.5.4.

Quote:

This is for ENCODING in ac3.

Quote:

23fps XVID with AC3 to standaard ntsc film svcd.
Ac3 in xvid often needs to by passed throught ac3fix. The error you have can comes from there.

Quote:

AC3ACM v0.7 by fccHandler
according to the name I would have say that this is the one you need.

EDIT: BTW all the thread doesn't have any means as tmpgenc shouldn't be used for encoding audio (moreover if the source is ac3) ! The resutl you have is FAR under the one obtained with real ac3->mp2 audio encoders. You have to isolate the audio, encode the video only with tmpgenc and do the audio with headac3che. So I really don't see why you are loosing so much time
