Is Mencoder able to demultiplex?

Can it do that? I looked high and low on google, and nothing came up...but i think it can.

If so, please let me know the syntax on the command line.

Using linux, MEncoder 1.0pre4-3.3.3.

yes, i have looked at the manual here:

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/mencoder.html

I don't see much in terms of demultiplexing in mencoder. I did, however, notice -dumpvideo and -dumpaudio options for mplayer. So i gave em a shot. The resulting files aren't able to multiplex, however. In other words, i am probably using the wrong command...

Why want you to demux with Mencoder.exe?

MPlayer can dump to mp2:

mplayer -dumpaudio "E:\Ice Age\VTS_04_1.VOB" -dumpfile movie.mp2

And Mencoder with noaudio=1 is basically demuxing the video (then recompressing it).

BUT - the mp2 output file is VERY poor quality, full of ticks and screechy scratchy sounds. It's waaay better to use besweet or headac3he.

guys, i can't use besweet or headac3he on linux, can i?

I just wanted to know if mencoder could do it, guess its not such a great idea after all. The reason for it is that i have made a vcd.mpeg which is around 1.6GB in size. So i was thinking that i would have to demultiplex it and remultiplex it to chunks that could fit on a cd using mplex.

yep, thx. That i did try and even though it works, i was looking for alternatives. Reason being that that utility was last updated in 2002 and i have no idea when it will end up dead and not work with newer linux.
