Newest KVCDx3 compatibility test CD?
 

Hello there,

I have been looking everywhere, and I have found v2 of the KVCD test cd in the eDonkey/eMule network.

Does anybody have any more modern version that uses KVCDx3 templates? Or is this the latest available and maybe already uses these templates?

Yes, I am just starting, and want to test my available players before I start spending time on learning encoding methods and so on...

(any tips appreciated, of course)

This is the last in date and it replaces previous one. Normally it should have KVCDx3 sample in it. Am I wrong ?

I don't know if it has KVCDx3 in it or not. But it is the only cd I have been able to find.

I would like some confirmation of what it includes, and if it is really up to date.

The issues you can have related to KVCD compatibility, are KVCD itself, your standalone will play it or not, or resolution issues that your standalone can or not accept.
Then, you need to download the image and try it.

Be carreful, only KDVD samples exist in PAL and NTSC.
kvcd sample disc is NTSC only.

Would the KDVD samples help me in any way? I don't have a DVD burner...

Unfortunally yes.
In fact kvcd sample suffer from the number of possibilities that exists to do such disc.

- MPEG1 samples in NTSC on a VCD disc
- MPEG1 samples in PAL on a VCD disc
- MPEG2 samples in NTSC on a SVCD disc
- MPEG2 samples in PAL on a SVCD disc
- MPEG1 samples in NTSC on a SVCD disc (header trick)
- MPEG1 samples in PAL on a SVCD disc (header trick)
- MPEG2 samples in NTSC on a VCD disc (header trick)
- MPEG2 samples in PAL on a VCD disc (header trick)

You see, that means that you need 8 sample discs and each user should test at least the 4 corresponding to their country area (PAL or NTSC).

In KDVD you have only 2 discs to do. That's why I did them :-)

They can but its tricky and not really for someone discovering all these stuff. Except if you already know how to extract a mpeg from a vob...

You just need to encode some short samples with kvcdx3 template.
I don't know how work DIKO, but with TMPGEnc is very easy.
Load your kvcdx3 template, load your short sample avi, go to settings, look at target resolution, type (mpeg1 or mpeg2) and norma (for you it should be PAL), remember it, go to main, add encode to a batch list, save it with a name that include resolution, type and norma (for example 704*576 mpeg1 PAL), return to main window go to settings and change resolution and when necessary type and norma), add it to batch list. When you finished, encode batch list.
You can mux all these files as VCD or SVCD, no matter they are mpeg1 or mpeg2. Well, take all files muxed as VCD and burn a VCD non standard in a CDRW. Remember order in CD and play it. Write down how sample play fine in your standalone.
Make same thing with files muxed as SVCD, it is to say burn it as SVCD non standard in same CDRW (or in another one, it is up to you).
