What is the easiest way to add subtitles in a KVCD?
Hi all,
Make KVCDs with TMPGEnc is easy. But this program doesn't support subtitles. I used dvdx as frameserving to TMPGEnc in order to add subtitles, but process is slowly and complex. Any other good idea? Thanks a lot, Bernhard Enders. |
You can use VirtualDub with the VobSub filter.
After you applied the VobSub filter on your movie, just frame server it to TMPGEnc. |
...or you can let DVD2SVCD do the subs for you. Just stop it after the subs have been done and edit the avisynth file with your kvcd settings.

What about sound?
Thank you two for the answers but... after this process I will have a .mpg file with or without audio? In the case of frameserving from vitualdub.
m0rdant, I don't know how do I extract all settings of my kvcd template to import them to the avisynth file---is this just cut and paste? :-) |

In TMPGEnc, set no audio source (stream type = video only). This way you will have just the video stream. Multiplex this video stream with the audio stream (made with headac3he) with BBmpeg. |
To use DVD2SVCD to do the subs...
-Start DVD2SVCD and choose the subs ect that you want. -Let it do the ripping of movie and subs -Let it finish the DVD2AVI part of the process and audio extraction/processing, then close DVD2SVCD -Use FitCD on the DVD2AVI project file and save the avisynth. -open the avisynth file that DVD2SVCD created (they are just text files so you can open them with notepad) and cut and past the subtitle sections into the avisynth file you made with FitCD. -Open TMPGEnc and use the FitCD avisynth as video source and the the encoded audio file as audio source. Load the KVCD template you are going to use...and away you go. Try to set the resolution in DVD2SVCD close to what you are going to use in TMPGEnc as this has some effect on the subtitle size. You might find it easier to do manually, but I like letting DVD2SVCD do as much of the work as I can. |
