KVCD: Which encoder for one CD-R Encodes ?
First of all it's nice to see all the progress that happened when I was gone (due to school and all that stuff). But that progress also created a lot of questions for me.
I'm still a fan of 1 CD Encodes, since I use my DVD Writer only for Xbox Backups. So I want to continue to back up my DVD's to one single CD - R as KVCD (MPEG - 1). I saw the thread where kwag announced that he stopped the support for TMPGEnc. And I also saw all the users in here, using that so called Mencoder. So my simple question is: Based on quality, which encoder is the best for DVD -> KVCD on one single CD - R ? |
It's still TMPGEnc, not the 3.0 but the 2.5x ones.
MEncoder is still in alpha phase and definitely not suitable for MPEG-1. |
KVCD mpeg1: TMPGEnc 2.5x (avoid completely 2.59, it is bugged)
KVCD mpeg2: Cinema Craft Encoder. |
At the risk of repeating the same thing and spamming:
Tmpgenc with cqmatic 1204 or 1301 has given me beautiful 1 disk kvcd's. Time up to 122 mins (that was cq_vbr 17, a little rough, but still better than a standard vcd) fit quite nicely on 80 mins. Audio is 112 or 128 depending on room available (movie time). My usual cq_vbr is 24.5 to 26.66.. (About what would that be comparable to in CQ - i think it was dialhot who said to never go below 50 in CQ, and 60 + is really a minimum for good encodes. So what's the good-average for cq_vbr??) |
When should I use CQ and when CQ_VBR ???
|
I think CQ_VBR is recommended for 352x240/288 and CQ for all the other resolutions.
