Fix 560x416 video resolution?

i have 560x416 avi file , fps : 23.97 its FULL SCREEN and mp3 sound
what is best kvcd that i can make from this ???

Dialhot 07-15-2004 04:46 PM

the length in minutes ?

bruce_wein 07-16-2004 03:01 AM

it's 93 minutes
i did a sample in 528 x 480 but it came out in my left side of tv
and not in center !!!
what resolution should i use and audio bitrate ?

Dialhot 07-16-2004 03:19 AM

Your problem with 528 shows that your player does not support all the resolution. So you MUST test first its capabilities with the sample disc provided here :

hey man!
i'v downloaded the kvcd samples
i got 2 modes in witch the picture went to the left side of tv :
1) 352X480 - plus
2) KVCDx3 528X480 - plus
in these modes the picture is wrong

but suprisingly enough 1 mode worked fine :

KVCD 704X480 - PLUS

works like a charm !!!

all the regular modes worked fine too ...

Okay. But for your source don't use 704*480. Never enlarge a resolution, always shrink it.

For a 93 minutes generally the 544*480 is the res to use but wth a fullscreen, prefer 480*480.

bruce_wein 07-16-2004 03:57 AM

i'm using tmpgenc plus and i don't have that template : 480X480
can u help ?
where can i get it or do i do it manually ???

Dialhot 07-16-2004 04:01 AM

Just load the 544*480 (KVCDx3) template, and change manually the resolution to 480*480.
If they are locked (greyed), right click on the setting and choose "unlock".

bruce_wein 07-16-2004 06:06 AM

i did exactly as u said
fixed it to 480x480 in tmpgenc and i got after multiplexing
426 x 480 mpeg file
don't know why ???? i specifically set it to 480x480
i burned that sample and it was again in the left side of the tv
please help!

It's just the tool taht you are using to see the res after muxing that is wrong.
What do you use ?
(and btw, with what do you mux ?)

I'm not sure that on the sample disc there was a 480*480 sample. Was it ? You told me that all regular res were okay and 480*480 is a regular one, so it should work properly according to your tests.

bruce_wein 07-16-2004 06:32 AM

on the sample disc all worked well exapt 2 that i wrote before
but there was no 480x480 sample , just : lbr, ulbr , regular , 704x480
i'm multiplexing with tmpgenc
maybe there is something wrong with that prog ?

No there isn't. But you missed pat of the question : what is the tool that you use to see that the result is not with the correct resolution ?

For the resolution, unfortunally you will have the choise between 352*240 and 704*480 then. And with fullscript, there is no real choice : 352*240 !
(or do the job on 2 cd in 704*480).

bruce_wein 07-16-2004 06:45 AM

if i can get the same file , same time , same sound but WIDESCREEN avi , would it be better ??? and if it would , what resolution to use ?
i guess my pioneer dv-535 can't read 480X480 (bummer ..... )

Boulder 07-16-2004 06:48 AM

Maybe you should encode as MPEG-1 (at resolution 480x480) but mux and burn as SVCD, I'd suppose Pioneer's do play them. At least that's what my DV-343 needs for KVCDs to work properly.

Dialhot 07-16-2004 07:12 AM

And for the question about widescreen, yes it wil be a lot better for the final quality of the result.

Note: i have a DV-454 and it plays anything :-). 535 (and 343) is from the year before unfortunally.

bruce_wein 07-16-2004 07:18 AM

well .... i did what Boulder said and ...
WOALA !!!!!!!!!! IT WORKS !!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WORKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank u DialHot & Boulder for the help
but i still have a question
i does work but it cropped the sides of the screen and made my FULLSCREEN look like WIDESCREEN but with cropped sides
any suggestion ???

bruce_wein 07-16-2004 07:44 AM

For right/left sides that is a phenomena called "tv overscan" (that you never noticed on DVDs but is there also) and can be fixed only by using a script for the KVCD process.

For the widescreen aspect, taht is a pioneer standalone problem : they turn the TV in 16:9 on any VCD aven if it is in 4:3. You must force the 4:3 mode on the TV manualy (with the remote) or configure you standalone to ouput picture in "4:3 letterboxed".

bruce_wein 07-16-2004 08:12 AM

what is script and how can i use a script for the KVCD process ???
by the way setting 4:3 letterbox on my pioneer didn't help...

The forum is full of script ! The ones for divx -> kvcd are here :
http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7223

The way to use them, here :
